I’m 19 and started to notice my hairline change about a year ago and just today was trying to measure to see if it’s in the mature hairline category, I noticed everyone says that juvenile hairlines start from the highest forehead wrinkle, and I was wondering if this is always true because I have a picture of myself from when I was 10 or 11 with my hair slicked back so you can see my forehead very clearly and it really doesn’t look like my hairline starts where my highest forehead wrinkle is, idk maybe my highest forehead wrinkle is very faint and I can’t really see it but I even measured the ratio of my forehead to the rest of my face from that picture and from a picture now and if I measure from the center of my hairline my forehead is in the same proportion to the rest of my head in both pictures.
Yes, all juvenile hairlines start at the highest wrinkle of the furrowed brow, see this article which discusses hairlines in children, women and men as they develop: https://newhair.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/phenotype-article-published.pdf
Here is the study, I figured it was rather interesting. When people don’t know anything about us bald/balding folks they see us as less socially attractive than non bald dudes. But once they get to know us they actually find us MORE socially attractive than non-bald males.
Edit: Are half of balding men retarded? Or just not reading the full post? The point here is that bald/balding men are MORE socially attractive than non-balding men from a perspective of SOCIAL attractiveness to people that know them. No one is saying the physical part is ground breaking information. Cheezits…
There is not much for me to say than is said in the publication.
Asking this because i believe fin is hardly doing anything to save my hairline at the moment. Its been a solid eight months only to have seen more recession and thinning. Let me know your guys experiences!
Finasteride works less well on hairlines that on the crown. There is, however, many examples of finasteride working on the hairline on my https://baldingblog.com/ site (this is the stie) so use the search engine to find examples. See examples posted today,

A hair transplant doctor I know has noticed that some of her finasteride patients who started taking cannabis, has seen ED appearing. The article states: “What’s good for the goose may be bad for the gander. Specifically, marijuana use may cause erectile dysfunction in men. Of note, erectile dysfunction is the most frequent male sexual disorder.” For men on finasteride and who are using marijuana and have sexual side effects, maybe there is a link that potentiates the ED in finasteride users.
Is it true that fin really does alter people’s mental state (e.g depression) and altered their brain/cognitive functioning as well?
There does seem to be a small number of men who take finasteride and get depressed if they have a history of depression and there are reports of brain fog which has never been successfully explained. Brain fog or depression is a good reason not to be one finasteride.
History: dad went beyond any point of regrow the by the time he was age 22, and my older cousin who is that same age is pretty much bald at this point (he went from all hair to no hair within 2 years) I didn’t even think I was close to being the age where I had to consider hair loss until my 17th birthday (may 2020) when my dad suggested I begin using rogaine preventatively. As soon as he said this I went and analyzed my scalp for the first time, and sure enough I was starting to go bald on my crown. I started the Costco/samsclub rogaine and have been doing that since then. It seemed to start actually working about 2 months ago and I’m pretty sure it has been effective
You need a personalized Master Plan worked through a good hair doctor who cares about his patients. This is far too important to mange by yourself. Read this: https://baldingblog.com/go-why-do-we-need-a-master-plan/
Noticed my hairline has been receding since I turned 16 and since then it’s just got worse but wondering what treatment I am able to use the now for hair loss as I can’t take finasteride and if minoxidil will be affective long enough until I turn 18
See a good hair doctor and get real good advice from proper diagnosis and treatment. This is too important than to be your own doctor
I’ve been prescribed finasteride by my dermatologist and I’ve been taking it since the 1st of Jan, about more than 3 weeks ago. I’ve also been using Ketoconazole 2% since then for my dandruff & itchiness. Helps alot! So far I’ve been shedding and hair seems thinner, but im being optimistic & hoping for regrowth at the 6-8 month mark. My crown feels like its thickening up, but my temples & the frontal area seem thinner now, could even see my scalp under light…. Anyways, I was just curious if I could use another type of brand of finasteride once the one I’m currently taking is finished in March.
In theory, all drugs cleared by the FDA should be the same as the label states; however, I have heard complaints from some men who switched brands find that the effectiveness has changed. I don’t understand this other that some of these brands could be counterfeits, something more common than most of us realize.
not to sound ignorant, but what benefit do I get from seeing a doctor, other than getting the receipt for finasteride, which I‘ve already done? Or are you thinking about transplants? Different question: I wanna try topical fin, but I‘m not sure where I can get it in Germany, I saw that some people mix it themselves, I don‘t think thats a good idea…I could order it from the US, but that would be too expensive for me in the long run.
A good doctor will give you a Personalized Master Plan for your short and long term hair loss management. It doesn’t necessarily mean a hair transplant. I am a hair transplant surgeon yet I manage many men for hair loss even though I never do a hair transplant on them. I show the patient caring, empathy and bring my expertise to the situation at hand.
