The pictures below were taken three days after an African American had 1,000 FUE grafts in the frontal hairline. Please note the very small FUE wounds are barely detectable as are the grafts. He had no swelling and he had no crusts because we washed them off after the surgery.
Thank you for the baldingblog. The answers you’ve give over the years are a very valuable resource for patients before, during and after hair transplants. It’s now 9 weeks after my FUE. My recipient area is very red and incision marks are all visible. The color and texture of the recipient area improved until the […]
I could write a book about this subject. Many years ago when larger grafts were used, it was impossible to hide a hair transplant because the wounds were large (between 3 and 5 mm). Large wounds, are obvious and at the time that these were done (late 1980s and early 1990s) the typical patient had […]
I posted an email from a reader a couple days ago regarding topical minoxidil and facial wrinkles, and received some feedback worth posting. Dr. Damkerng Pathomvanich from Thailand reached out to me to speak of his experience in treating hair loss patients with oral minoxidil. He states: The use of oral minoxidil for treating hair […]
Not everyone will heal the same, but this is an example of a patient from last week who had 3,169 grafts just 3 days from the day these pictures were taken. Please note that this was a large procedure and he had no post-operative scabbing or swelling. The secret to this type of post-operative look […]
This isn’t hair loss related, but it’s something I wanted to write about… Bullying is one of the evils found in schools, and the spotlight has been placed on this topic as of late. When a young man develops adolescent gynecomastia, he often become the target for bullying and peer ridicule. This is common and […]
I just heard a story from another doctor of a young girl (let’s call her Shirley) who went to a beauty school to get highlights in her hair. The student beautician put strands of her hair in aluminum foil and “painted” them with a bleach. Shirley’s head was then put under a hot hair dryer. […]
I believe some doctors do use ice on the forehead to reduce the swelling, but in general there is no significant inflammation on the forehead where most doctors put ice. I do not know if the ice really helps, but I am confident that it does not impact the degree of shock loss that occurs […]
Here’s a recent patient of Dr. Pak‘s that has agreed to show his full face (and results) to the world. He’s very excited about the future of his hair, and although these photos are only 10 days out of surgery, you can see that he’s on the right track. There’s no redness, no scabbing, no […]
The bruising is rare, but it is normal to have swelling after a hair transplant procedure if your surgeon did not use large dose steroids to prevent it. It should be found in the pre-operative or post-operative handout you hopefully received — and more importantly in your operative consent form. Most of the swelling should […]
Let me get this straight — you trusted your doctor for his expertise and judgments to have him perform a hair transplant surgery, but now you don’t trust these very same things because you read things on the Internet about post-operative care and scabs? I highly doubt your doctor ruined your grafts. We did do […]
In the United States, surgeons generally charge per graft (follicular unit). One graft contains anywhere from one, two, three, and sometimes 4 hairs. In general, one graft averages 2.2 hairs. Some doctors add to the confusion about pricing by switching to a charge per hair, to make it appear less expensive. So if 1700 hairs […]
You should be asking this question to your doctor. The instructions given to you post-op are relatively standard instructions. With respect to the stretching of your donor wound, some stretch is unavoidable. Head positioning after a hair transplant is less important after 3 days, as swelling is less of a problem.
