There is no doubt that shaving the recipient area makes the job for the surgeon much easier, but I rarely do it because my patients do not want to deal with the social disruptions in their life that would occur with shaving the head. It takes considerable experience working with the hair on the head […]

It’s probably not true… and you probably learned it from a clinic where the doctor insists on shaving the head. At NHI, we only shave the area that we remove in the donor. The best way to prevent shock loss is to take finasteride before the hair transplant and stay on it for at least […]
FUE is not a perfect technique and it has a higher failure rate than the standard strip surgery, as the follicular units are often stripped of fat at the bottom of the grafts. Also, body hair transplants do not work to my satisfaction, because body hair does not grow the way scalp hair does. Body […]
I have trouble believing this. If you believe its true let me know the results when you try this on your scalp. If you shave your scalp, I doubt you will get more hair growing. Is this your goal?
If you father did not have a beard (only a moustache), you may be following in his path. I personally wish I had no beard hair, but alas, the good Lord never asked me. Shaving can be quite a chore. Minoxidil applied to the face might work to grow facial hair, but it isn’t intended […]
I know how difficult it is for a person to undergo a buzz cut in the frontal area just to accommodate a hair transplant, so I have learned how to do this over the years without that close cut. This has, of course, helped my practice as people have built in camouflage with no forced […]
Sometimes shavers are not so sanitary and cause pimples or folliculitis. Your skin and scalp naturally contain (normal) bacteria and even the worrisome Staph, which can be a major infection problem that spreads easily. Irritating the skin/scalp with blades or shavers can also introduce the normal bacteria to the skin/scalp, causing local infection and irritation […]
If you are referring to the shaving doctors do before performing follicular unit extraction (FUE), it is not always necessary, but the number of grafts will be less than if you allow a larger area to be clipped. I am not sure what you mean by second attempt, but if you are saying that a […]
If you cut deep enough to remove a full thickness piece of your skin (with hair in it), then it might not grow back. Alternatively, if you left the wound open and it healed from the bottom up, it might not have hair in the scar. Otherwise, it should grow back in a few more […]
I don’t think that giving a 15 year old advice on medication should come from me. Assuming that you were of legal age to make such decisions on your own, minoxidil might grow back eyebrows… and then again it may not. See a doctor and have your problem managed. You should also get a parent/guardian […]
Unless it is very deep, cutting your skin while shaving will not cause hair damage. And no, slapping your head will not cause hair loss.
Shaving your body hair (in your case arm hair) will have no long term effect. Give it about 6-8 months to normalize, as that is the general hair cycle of body hair.
Is it possible that you are looking at your shaved body hair before it becomes long enough to appear normal? I doubt that the hair count of each follicular unit will change with shaving, and aside from the two posts I’ve now made about this phenomenon, I don’t recall ever hearing about this before. I […]
Nope. Some doctors recommend shaving or clipping the hair close, but like you said, it would be a deal-breaker for most men who do not want their lives or their looks to change immediately after a hair transplant. The doctors who require shaving believe it is better to see the balding pattern, but I believe […]
To determine if the hair will grow will take an understanding of the degree of skin loss you suffered (if any). If you lost a full thickness of skin (down to the fat) in a reasonable sized area, then the hair will not grow in the area where the full thickness of the skin was […]
