Dr do you know if finasteride sheds or shrinks some hair during the 2 months stage after a hair transplant? No, the shed if it comes from finasteride is a sign that it is working. Possibly you are shedding some miniaturized hairs that will regrow in a few months, just a guess. I hope you […]

I am 20 years old about to turn 21 and I’ve noticed these past few years how my hairline is starting to “recede”, however, contrary to what many people here post, I don’t notice excessive hair shedding (when I shower the amount of hair looks normal, I don’t notice hairs in my pillow etc.) Could […]
I’ve been on finasteride for about 4 months now. Shed began about a two months ago, nothing too out of the ordinary. Shedding miniaturized hair everytime I brush or shower. I was wondering, how long is this gonna last? Does one reach a point where the only hair you lose are terminal hair? You need […]
Can your hairline recede without hair shedding? Is that even what’s happening here? Yes, recession can happen without detectable shedding. We see that most of the time as young men transition from the juvenile hairline to a mature hairline
I’m on topical minoxidil and oral finasteride and still shedding for a year. I am thinking about switching to dutasteride and oral minoxidil. What do you think? It might be worth a try as it sounds like the genetic hair loss is out of control
Finasteride always helps by slowing, stopping and occasionally reversing hair loss. Just give it time to do its job. If you add minoxidil to it and possibly microneedling, it increases the chance of hair growth even further
How much shed should I worry about? Average scalp sheds about 100 hairs/day with a cycle of 3 years. That is 100,000 hair shed over almost 3 years, just do the math). If the cycle is shorter like a two year cycle (anagen to telogen cycle) then more hair loss can be expected and it […]
What constitutes to be as a “massive” shed which retreats my hairline – in all honesty, may not be all that bad to someone with more severe balding. I did shed a ton, but my hair was largely intact. My hairline, however – was a different story. I also think, due to the shifting of […]
In my experience prescribing it, I don’t hear of much complaints about shedding unless the hair loss is under rapid progression and the shedding was going on before the drug.
When you continue to shed on finasteride, it probably means that the genetic hair loss has increased its rate of loss. Stopping the finasteride will probably cause more rapid loss so I doubt that it is the finasteride that is causing the shedding

Normally how long does it take for the anti-androgens to push all the telogen hairs out and replace them with anagen hairs with a bigger diameter, thicker, denser, which is what the increased shedding phase boils down to being afraid. My mother’s a dermatologist and told me to wait for 6 weeks for it to […]
Is it normal to shed initially on 5AR inhibitors or should I stop immediately once I’ve noticed initial shedding? Is it a tell-tale sign I shouldn’t be taking it? (I’m going to be trialing saw palmetto as of next week I ask because the drug pamphlet of finasteride doesn’t mention initial shedding as an expected […]
I have been using finasteride for a year and my shedding had only increased. I thought that because I am young finasteride would be enough but I don’t think so now. My scalp has become more itchy, inflamed and red. All the dermatologists I have visited don’t know what it is or what to do. […]
If the hairline is maturing and there is no genetic balding, there should be no shedding
