Just turned 18 and having a lot of receding in the hairline and some thinning on the crown. All the males on my dads side of the family are bald and most the males on my moms side are bald also so i feel like MPB is inevitable just sucks that it started this early! But i am experiencing scalp pain on my crown just wondering if its normal or not
Scalp pain does not come from male patterned balding. Psychological pain is different

Could you give your opinion on how i can treat my thinning thinning? I’ve always had thin hair but the crown is noticeably thinning i think. I’ve always had a widows peak even from an early age but i’d expect it may be very slowly increasing in size over time also but it’s hard to say. It may be worth noting but i currently only use Nizoral anti dandruff shampoo in my hair every 3/4 days and that is what has provided the best results for my scalp which used to get dry and itchy. I very rarely apply any product into my hair because of the same dryness/itchiness also.
Your hair loss, if significant, is very early. I wonder if you should do anything about it. Maybe minoxidil liquid applied to the crown is the most benign approach and finasteride for the frontal hairline. The enlarging Widow’s peak suggests that your hairline is moving upwards, maybe just maturing but that is the reason to see a specialist in this area.
I am 21 and worry about this every day as I constantly look in the mirror and then compared my pictures from 3 years ago and see a big difference.
I am sure what you had three years ago was a juvenile hairline and it changed into a classic mature hairline . This is absolutely a normal mature hairline and the change is normal for someone of your age
Not trying to just gossip or start drama. Just want opinions. Personally, I think it’s playing a big part. It obviously takes a large toll on all of us going through it, but imagine being someone like Justin Bieber who’s whole life was boosted up based on an attractive appearance, especially the hair. And yes, his hair could be a lot worse. But we can all see he isn’t where he used to be.
All men want hair and don’t like it when they see changes related either to age or some form of male balding. Celebrities are no different and I have seen my share of celebrities to tell you that they are like you, they care about their hair
What I’m doing right now is a comb over with buzzed sides. I have no balding, just thinning behind my hairline as far back as the crown. Kind of a pompadour deal. I keep reading that the comb over is a cardinal sin, but TBH it looks pretty good on me and people don’t seem to notice.

I stopped taking minoxidil because of chest pain and my heart was racing
Made my hair greasy and looked puffy (im used the foam 5%)
I felt like my heart was racing fast, idk if it was nocebo but whenever i put my hands on my heart it felt like it was beating fast. But i didnt have any headaches or chest pain or whatever. I stopped due to this reason as well, maybe i was hyper aware??
Can I try to restart it now?
Heart racing and chest pain from minoxidil is a worrisome side effect. Speak with your doctor.
I first started noticing my very fine hair was thinning around 5 years ago. I’ve struggled with depression for a long time so I never did much about it, just accepted my fate I suppose. I should also note that I had a thyroidectomy in 2010 due to thyroid cancer.

Well my hair is to the point that I am embarrassed to show it in public. It’s super obvious. I have thin patches on the back of my head and some on the sides, plus right at my hairline, all up by my crown. I’ve decided to actually do something about it. So I started with Rogaine about a month ago. I saw a dermatologist who said he’s ‘never seen anything like it, its unheard of’ (my hairloss), I really didn’t like his bedside manner and didn’t feel comfortable with him. He said to do Rogaine, Biotin, and a Hairmax laser (which is out of my price range). Is it worth it to get a second opinion? I’m discouraged by my first experience but I would like some answers to the cause of my hairloss.
