What you’ve described isn’t something I’ve encountered before. Hair cycling occurs in everyone and it usually cycles each hair in about 2-4 years. Hairs grow in the anagen phase of the hair cycle. Could it be that your hair cycle is just extremely short? If that were the case, new hairs are continuing to grow […]
We typically lose 100-150 hairs a day, but if you’re seeing excessive loss, there could be a variety of possible reasons. I don’t know what you consider excessive, though. At 14 years old, you should get your parents involved and see a doctor to try to determine a cause for your thinning. Until we know […]
It’s normal to lose hair in the shower, as the water can dislodge some of the trapped hair (from hairspray or other styling agents) that would’ve fallen out throughout the day as part of the normal hair cycling process. That part doesn’t sound unusual to me. If your hairline is moving up, that could either […]
Movement of the hairline to the mature position is common by your age. Measuring the mature hairline using the wrinkled brow is really more of a loose “rule”. I’ve written about that here. Hair cycling is normal as your follicles go through different phases of growth (anagen, catagen, and telogen), so yes, your dermatologist was […]
If you’re seeing a Norwood class 1 or 2, that isn’t really considered balding. It is normal to lose hair daily, as new hair grows in (hair cycling). It is also normal for your hair to appear thinner under bright, direct lighting. All in all, what you’re describing sounds pretty… normal. If you are concerned […]
Hair loss or growth does not happen overnight. For that matter, the texture of your hair does not change overnight either. Your body just does not work that way. The biology of hair cycling is in the order of weeks to months. If you decide to abstain from red meat that is your prerogative, but […]
100-150 hairs lost each day is considered normal, but if they’re all coming out in the bath at once that might be a little much. Do you wear a hat all day and trap in the hairs that would normally fall out during the hair cycling process? If you are concerned about hair loss, please […]
You really should see a good doctor and find out what is happening. Stress can cause hair loss, but shedding 20 hairs is within the range of the 100 or so hairs anyone might lose per day as new hair grows in (the regular cycling of hair).
If you saw significant improvement from taking finasteride, then I would assume that you had/have genetic hair loss and the drug was appropriately prescribed. At 1 month, the only benefit a person would see would be a reduction on hair shedding. In a person without genetic hair loss taking this drug, nothing will be seen […]
Snippet from the article: Read the rest — Olympic cyclist Joanna Rowsell’s hair loss inspiration hope Congratulations to Joanna Rowsell on her win and being an inspiration to people with this condition!
The average person loses 100-150 hairs per day in the normal daily hair cycle (these hair fall out as they go through the catagen phase). That means that every year we will lose 35,000+ hairs and regrow the same amount from new hair cycles that start up in anagen. As I’ve written before, Propecia doesn’t […]
I believe that after many years of being bald, the follicles on the scalp essentially die. I could be wrong. The “infrastructure” that supports hair growth is atrophic (very thin) in the very bald man and has less active blood vessels, less fat, and less glandular tissue. When we transplant into this atrophic area, a […]
It varies with each individual and possibly with each follicular unit. It may also be seasonal (something that we are now observing, contrary to what I previous stated -my apologies). We really know very little about this area, and some of the comments by doctors that have been in the hair restoration business for years […]
Bulk measurement is done by grasping hairs that are in an area about one square inch of your scalp. So if you can pick a region and mark off about one square inch and you are able to grab the hairs freely with about two fingerbreadths, that should be enough of a length. I’d say […]
