Click the photos to enlarge: First, I have no idea what being male has to do with being referred to a dermatologist. Dermatology is for men and women. Maybe you’re thinking of a gynecologist. What does this mean? It’s not unusual to see the scalp when your hair is wet, and it will particularly […]

When I was an intern with the cardiac service of CW Lillehei at the University of Minnesota. Dr Lillehei had just performed a surgery on a 16 year old girl with a Tetralogy of Fallot (a congenital heart defect). Being 16, Maria was unusually old for this type of surgery as most children with this […]
The following post is by UK-based physician Dr. Bessam Farjo: Written by: Dr Bessam Farjo United Kingdom I recently came across a poll on newbeauty.com, which reveals that one in four Americans would consider having surgery if it wasn’t so costly. With this in mind, it’s not surprising that people seek a lower cost option […]
The following post is by UK-based physician Dr. Bessam Farjo: Written by: Dr Bessam Farjo United Kingdom While I have discussed my reservations in previous blogs with regards to younger men undergoing hair transplant surgery, I felt that the most effective way to raise my concerns is by offering examples of cases I’ve dealt with […]
For starters, shock loss usually slows down between 3-5 months following your hair transplant. I really can’t fully address your concerns, because I haven’t had the opportunity to examine you before and after your surgery. In our office, we offer the use of a device called HairCheck, which is a way of measuring hair bulk. […]
I’m going to rant for a moment, even though I know I’m running the risk of repeating myself. I’m disheartened by the amount of emails I get from people that are upset about the “bargain” hair transplant they got at various clinics around the globe. Of course, we realize that usually it’s the negative results […]
First things first, thanks for allowing us to post your photo! Click it to enlarge. I’m pretty sure we’ve never said finasteride wouldn’t help a young man with early signs of Norwood class 7. In fact, we strongly advocate finasteride over surgery for early thinning in young men. You’re 22 years old with what […]

If you want a formal consultation from me, you can call (800) NEW-HAIR or send photos to this address and make time for a phone consultation. Sending pictures to BaldingBlog and having me comment on it will be just generalizations. I recommend taking the photos outside in daylight with some close-ups that wrinkle the brow […]
A man came to see me last week with a problem following his hair transplant at another clinic over a year ago. The surgeon told him that 6600 grafts were transplanted (in three sessions) using the follicular unit extraction (FUE) technique, which he guaranteed has a yield of over 90%. The patient wanted to know […]
The only problem with stopping minoxidil is from the dependencies on the hairs that have been benefited. I tell my surgical patients on minoxidil to continue using it up until the night before the hair transplant and then restart it 2 weeks after the procedure. The blood vessel impact from minoxidil on the scalp will […]
You sent a lot of photos, but unfortunately most of them were from a distance and poor quality, so they don’t help me see much. The two best photos are shown below (click to enlarge) — the left photo is from 1 day post, the right photo is from 7 months post surgery. There does […]

The following response comes from him: — Response by: Dr Bessam Farjo United Kingdom We finished following up the last volunteer of Phase II of the trial about 6 weeks ago, and the 1st set of analysis data have just been released. Usually shock hair loss only occurs once, but while it is unlikely, a repeat bout of hair loss is possible. Take care of your medical problem and do not focus on your hair. If you need to have this other surgery, then do it.
Hair cloning procedures available to the general public are still many years away. Maybe there will be medications required, maybe not. At this stage, no one knows. Any cloned hair would have to be DHT resistant or what is the point in cloning hair that is susceptible to falling out again? Complete failure of a […]
