This is not an uncommon question. I have shown his before and after pictures here, with permission. He has received 3,218 grafts in three procedures. The first procedure was a limited FUE surgery placed into the corners with 484 grafts. This gave him a nice result, but he wanted more fullness so another procedure was […]

I hope you read the blog entry from last week where a patient whom I did not recommend getting a hair transplant was not happy with my recommendation and got a hair transplant from another doctor. Now he is worse off and more bald because he lost more hair due to shock loss. I would […]
Cell therapy is not going to be on the market for a few years at the least and there is still no guarantee that it will work yet. Hair transplantation for some very bald people is still the best way to go. Sooner or later, alternatives to transplants will be available. Depleting the donor supply […]
If you are balding from genetic causes, then there is a good reason to be using finasteride 1mg (marketed as Propecia), which you must take for the rest of your life ( that is, until a cure for balding is discovered). The doctor who told you that you are too early for transplants is probably […]
Note: This is continued from part 1 that was posted yesterday … How could you say Hair ‘A’ was fine to begin with? The answer is not as simple as A+B=C There are many documented cases where people who gained hair from using Propecia, lost the gained hair when they stopped using Propecia. First, I […]
Stress definitely plays a part in hair loss. However if you have a component of genetic male pattern hair loss , hair will not grow back. If this become a big problem for you, you may consider making an appointment with a hair transplant surgeon who can map your scalp hair for miniaturization pattern and […]
I want to have the body I had when I was 40, but at 60 I can’t get there. Reality is that everyone loses youth and I accept that for myself. You need to stop gambling and start being smart about your hair loss. Once your hair is mapped out for miniaturization, you can be […]
I often see men like yourself very upset when they come to my office after stopping Propecia. I always tell my patients that if they stop taking Propecia, they need to plan for ‘catch-up hair loss’, meaning that the time of taking the drug is wiped clean and the hair loss accelerates to where it […]
Simple answer: No. Longer answer: Your hair loss may be more pronounced if you never took Propecia. Propecia has its limits and it is not the panacea for preventing the progression of hair loss in all people for all times. As you may know from reading this blog, we are big proponents of mapping your […]
What it seems like you are actually saying is that your juvenile hair line is persistent and that you are losing hair behind it. This juvenile area (located in the first 2/3rds inch above the frontal muscle crease which you can see when you wrinkle the forehead) has a different genetic makeup than the hair […]
At the young age of 20, you are experiencing accelerated hair loss. Your final pattern may be reflected in your family, so probe the entire history of hair loss amongst the men from both your mother’s and father’s sides. Having a hair transplant at this early age may lead to further hair loss, called shock […]
The best way to answer that question is to determine just what of your original hair population is still left. If there is some original hair, then Propecia (for men only) may help. Rogaine (minoxidil) may get some of the hair growing when Propecia does not. At age 43, that is still having enough hair […]
To determine this, you need to have the diagnosis of male pattern hair loss made with a good thorough mapping of your scalp for miniaturization. It is not unusual with male pattern hair loss that one side is ahead of the other. The side that is not bad, will unfortunately catch up with the good […]
I edited this letter before publishing it here, because it contained things that should not be the focus of such a letter (even for humor). I always believe that if you have nothing good to say about someone/something, best not say it. This man was a delight to work with and we bonded in a […]
Sounds like you have lost the benefits of Propecia. Go back on it. As you are already on Rogaine, stay on it, at least until the process has stabilized. Then work with a good doctor to put together a good Master Plan for you.
