A young 20 some year old who lost most of his hair realized that no matter how many grafts with hair transplant surgery, he will never have a full head of hair (especially if he kept his hair short). So he just accepted the fact and kept his hair shaved. He still didn’t like the […]

SMP is a form of tattoo. Tattoo pigment or SMP pigments may contain iron oxide. Iron oxide can theoretically interfere with MRI tests.
Dr. Rassman’s comment: This man started his hair transplant process too many years ago. He is now in his 60s and shaved his head for the procedure. He will eventually allow his hair to grow on top of the SMP. This type of comment occurs almost every day in our office. Scalp MicroPigmentation is one […]
We continue to see patients who had SMP done elsewhere and found that they continue to be unhappy with the results. The work we have seen reflects an inadequate investment of time on the part of the people doing the process. The patients reported that they had it done over a two day period for […]
This young man is enrolled in University of California in San Diego and has a career in Physics in front of him. He is very bright and he is balding already, now only in the crown, but he has early thinning evident in the frontal corners which may follow his father’s pattern of a Class […]
We are seeing more and more problems with Scalp Micropigmentation in our office from other facilities that offer SMP. These services are not only offered by inexperienced doctors, but also many tattooists have entered the business because there is money to make. What we are seeing are blotches of pigments, not microdots as we do. […]
This is the type of reaction we hear all of the time. Scalpmicropigmentation changes the lives of patients as much or even more than a hair transplant and it cost less and appears almost immediately, unlike a hair transplant that takes about 6 months to grow. Long hair or a shave head is a patient’s […]
The photo here is an example of what is possible with SMP on hair transplant scars. SMP is generally a one time procedure and the longevity is similar to any tattoo. As with any tattoo you may want to have it touched up after several years. If you would like more information, you can always […]
SMP (Scalp Micropigmentation) will not damage hair follicles as the hair follicles are much deeper in the scalp than the pigment is placed. The only medication that has been proven to grow hair is Propecia and Rogaine. If you are concerned about hair loss and treatment options, you should see a doctor.
There have been patients who have had SMP first then subsequently had FUE with the ARTAS with no issue.
Thanks for the comment. I realize that showing is more believable and more educational than talking about these point that we so often covered in baldingblog over the years. A second procedure was done just after these photos were taken: https://baldingblog.com/2014/09/05/female-hair-line-lowering-rounding-surgery-temple-recession-correction-with-photos/ One large […]
Hair transplant doctors do not perform Scalp MicroPigmentation. They usually hire local cosmetic tattoo or tattoo specialist to work for them. As far as I know, only Dr. Pak performs SMP personally using our developed pigment and technique. Several prominent hair transplant doctors have come to have SMP on themselves by Dr. Pak which we […]
This is a review of a Scalp MicroPigmentation performed at the New Hair Institute Medical Group. The following patient had a eye brow scar indent which he tried to mask with tattoos many years ago. He also had a hair transplant that did not work out well for him as he continued to lose hair. […]
You have to wait about 3 days before you go swimming (ocean, lake); however, if there is chlorine in the water (typical swimming pool) you should wait at least 30 days to be sure there is no connection between the pigment and the water. When SMP is properly done, the pigment settles below the epidermis […]
This patient had almost everything that could go wrong with hair transplantation including: Scalp reductions, multiple hair transplants and depletion of his donor area from the multiple surgeries in the past. More hair transplants were not an option. His results showed thinning but on the brighter side of things, he felt that he did not […]
