This is a comment from our regular reader/ occasional contributor -BiotechMD- (who is actually a medical doctor involved in many clinical trials and research) I thought I’d post a third party opinion since so many readers and patients are concerned about Propecia and sexual side effects and are quick to blame a side effect over […]

Propecia is a medication that is prescribed by your doctor for the treatment of androgenic alopecia. You can be 20 years or 70 years old as long as you were diagnosed with male pattern balding or androgenic alopecia. The doctor should be able to prescribe the medication for you. The key to determine when the […]
What you are describing is very unusual and I don’t have the luxury of examining you in person or taking a detailed medical history. You need to talk with a doctor as the cause of your chest pain may be something more serious than a simple side effect of a drug. Finasteride can cause gynecomastia […]
This is something you need to bring up to your primary doctor or the doctor who prescribed you the medication. Side effects you are attributing to the medication may be something totally different and you may have other health related issue. If it is a sexual side effect, many men in their 40’s have sexually […]
It doesn’t matter what time of day you take Propecia. Taking medications (such as Propecia) has nothing to do with your urination and defecation schedule. It has nothing to do with your fiber or coffee intake. If you are worried enough to write about it and think about it, you can always take Propecia after […]
You can always check with the laws of countries you are traveling to, but I have not heard of Propecia (finasteride) being banned in countries. Having a few month supply is different than having multiple unopened bottles that look like you are bringing it in to sell the drug.
First and foremost, please follow up with your doctor and address your question to him/her. I have some issues with your history and you need to follow your doctors recommendation. If you are a Norwood 1 or even 3, I question if you should have been on Propecia. Propecia does not work to prevent a […]
I believe the manufacturer recommend that you store it below 86 degrees F (30 degrees C). But brief or short exposure to higher temperature should be fine. This applies to most drugs in general.
Seborrheic dermatitis is a skin condition that cause flaky skin/ scalp. It has nothing to do with genetic hair loss. Propecia is a drug for the treatment of androgenic alopecia. It has nothing to do with a skin condition such as seborrheic dermatitis. Many patients with seborrheic dermatitis take Propecia without issues.
The reason why some men do not go bald is because they do not have the genes for balding. It has nothing to do with their DHT levels.
First and foremost, I am not your doctor and I do not give personal medical advice on Baldingblog so this is not a place for you to obtain answers for your medical issues. If you do have erectile dysfunction, and you need to have that checked out as it probably has little to do with […]
There are reports that serum testosterone levels rise when finasteride is used: “Finasteride treatment led to a generally modest increase relative to placebo in serum testosterone, with the greatest increases occurring in men with low baseline testosterone levels.” Even my colleague Dr. Bernstein writes about it HERE We also wrote about it yesterday: HERE
Propecia slightly raises testosterone initially but eventually your hormone levels should return to normal. The reports in the literature seems to go both ways. Some reports indicate a rise in Testosterone while others show a decrease. Unless you are a biochemist/pharmacist doing research, I do not think these are significant issues. Propecia will not make […]
Many readers here on Baldingblog are here to seek information for their hair loss issues. There are many who are “scared” or concerned with side effects from Propecia which can actually help with male pattern balding. The most noticeable side effect in question is the concern for erectile dysfunction or loss of libido as there […]
For all practical purposes, the half life of Propecia (finasteride 1mg) in your blood stream is about 4-6 hours. This means the drug should be out of your blood stream in one day. This is why you need to take the medication everyday. Some believe there is a component of tissue fixation where some residual […]
