This appears to be a disease called Alopecia Areata or a scarring alopecia, both autoimmune diseases of the scalp. See a dermatologist to get it biopsied and treated.

Folliculitis Decalvans is a terribly aggressive disease. I have seen this appear in a couple of patients over the past 27 years in practice and it is difficult to manage. I would consider an alternative like Scalp MicroPigmentation which will not be aggravated by this disease. See here: https://scalpmicropigmentation.com/bold-shaved-look/ You seem to keep your hair […]
Your donor area was either over-harvested if you had an FUE or developed a scar from a strip surgery which, when it occurs, usually occurs in that location. You did not state if you had FUE grafts and if so, how many or if you had strip surgery. If it was FUE, the number of […]
I doubt that this patient will regrow anymore hair. I believe the transplant was a failure considering that very little hair grew. The patient also reported that his donor area was heavily scarred. This was probably from over-harvesting his donor area, a common surgery done around the world by ignorant doctors. If the donor area […]
Once the grafts are placed in the hairline, it can be difficult to correct. FUE can work on a limited number of grafts, but an area as large as you showed, it is not easily removed with FUE. Hair removal lasers would work but that might leave some scarring. Refashioning the hairline may be the best option […]
Hanna was born 15 weeks premature and given only a five percent chance to live. The difficult birth resulted in severe bruising on her head and lead to lifelong scarring that destroyed the hair follicles on her scalp. Hanna knew from a young age that her hair loss made her different. From being called a “monster” […]
I have seen some good results and some terrible results from Turkey. I have been told that there are almost 500 hair transplant clinics and only a few dozen that have actual doctors involved in the surgery which means that the vast majority of these clinics are illegal clinics by Turkish law (not enforced). Mass […]
Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) is promoted by many doctors as a scar-less surgery. This is never true. All FUE surgeries produce punctate (small) scars which appear at every site where a grafts is removed and can be seen only when the scalp is shaved very closely. Although many patients never see these scars, some of […]
This is a photo of a female patient who had a hair line lowering and rounding hair transplant surgery. This is sometimes known as forehead reduction surgery. *CLICK TO ENLARGE PHOTO This patient did not like her square high forehead with receded corners. She thought her hair line looked too masculine. She considered a forehead […]
I have heard from reliable sources that Donald Trump has had more than one scalp surgery to treat balding over 20 years ago. Many people who have had the older types of hair transplant procedures from the 1980s and 1990s often received deforming procedures that caused significant scarring on the scalp. Visible deformities can be covered […]
These are just my (Dr. Rassmans’s) opinions (regarding the Press release which may be more exaggerated than he original publication as one reader rightfully points out): Taking neck hair, which is often finer than scalp hair, has problems with it. These problems include: (1) more prominent scarring occurs in the neck and the neck area […]
I have had more transplant in the past than I care to mention including the old fashion scalp reductions and have been stuck with weaves and wigs ever since. The SMP procedure is the most marvelous procedure ever. It got rid of all scarring from my transplants including the scalp reduction scar. I am a […]
Dr. Pak was an engineer working with me (Dr. Rassman) in the mid 1990s before he went off to medical school to be a doctor . We worked to invent a system or robot which would use cameras and special optical sighting system to target a hair follicle to automatically take out a follicle using the FUE technique. This […]
Dr. Rassman: Tattoo inks have been described as “remarkably nonreactive histologically”. However, cases of allergic reactions to tattoo inks, particularly certain colors, have been medically documented. This is sometimes due to the presence of nickel in an ink pigment, which triggers a common metal allergy which is fairly rare. Women may be more sensitive to […]
This patient would not allow me to show his pictures, but I will tell you in general what his “freaky” hair looked like. He had four scalp reductions (removal of bald scalp from the crown of the head) which left a scar down the middle of his head, and he had 4 partly failed transplants […]
