What is Post-finasteride Syndrome (PFD)?
This is a condition that is reported when a young man was on finasteride and developed sexual and other side effects that did not go away. This syndrome is highly suspect because of the litigation going on with Merck and two important observations: (1) The drive to profit from a Class Action law suit is present in some of the people complaining about the side effect and (2) the frequency of erectile dysfunction in men is 30% in 30 year olds, 40% in 40 year olds, 50% in 50 year olds and so on. Some men just lose their sex drive and their ability to get an erection with age and that is why drugs like Cialis and Viagra are so successful. Most men using these drugs were never on Propecia.
This post contains even more misinformation on post finasteride syndrome. This post wildly overstates the percentage of men that naturally get ED. 30% of people in their 30s do not have erectile dysfunction. You would know if 1/3 of people in their 30s get the condition as drugs like viagra would be successful beyond belief.
PFS is not characterized by one time or temporary impotence. It is an ongoing condition that victimizes some men that does not abate once use of Propecia stops. PFS also is accompanied by mental and psychiatric side effects such as depression and suicidal ideation because 5-alpha reductase is responsible for catalyzing the production of critical neurosteroids responsible for mood stabilization.
When drugs cause damage to their users and drug companies cover up the risks, there are lawsuits. It is insane that this post tries to make the argument that the syndrome is suspect because of lawsuits when the syndrome preceded the lawsuits by decades.
This blog and the doctors that post here are arguably complicit in covering up the risks of this drug due to the contradictory information they have been posting on here for years.
