Prednisone and Female Hair Loss
I have been taking prednisone for almost a year and do not know when I will be able to discontinue it. I am 44 years old (female) and my normal thick red hair is thinning dramatically. Are there any supplements that will slow the thinning process down?
Steroids have the effect of thinning out the hair. I do not know of anything that you can take to minimize the impact of the prednisone, but you should still get your hair mapped out for miniaturization and get a diagnosis. Although the prednisone may be the cause of the hair thinning, you still may have other problems and a good medical evaluation would be indicated.
VERY CONFUSED!
Why in one reply does this Doctor say PREDNISONE can cause hairloss and in another it is not a known cause.. Seems this is just site that is set up for hair tranplants with all the hits it gets with non transplant questions, makes it obvious a devious way to get serious TP searcher to sign up.
Calm down, Colleen. I just looked at a few blog entries where I mention Prednisone, and my message has been quite clear. Not sure where your confusion is from, but please send me the links that are causing you trouble and I’ll try to clear it up for you.
