Problems from Fincar (Generic Finasteride)
Dr. Rassman: Fincar Caused Bizarre Problems for me-please advise. I have used 1/4 proscar daily for 8 years I decided to try Fincar for a while. Supposedly Fincar is identical to Merck’s proscar. After starting Fincar my left testicle started aching. I had read numerous about such a paid although I had not experienced it.
In 30 days of Fincar use, bare spots appeared in my beard and the hair on my left arm diminished significantly. The outer third of both eyebrows have thinned drastically and my skin has gotten dry and wrinkly. I know this all sounds crazy but it’s scary.
I went to my family doctor and he just blew me off and said Im getting old since I’m 48.
Doctor-What did the Fincar do to me? I’ve been of Fincar 3 weeks. No testicle pain. Will I return to normal? I’ve resumed the Merck proscar daily but am scared. I wish I had never touched Fincar. Please tell people to never touch the non-Merck finasteride.
Thanks
From my understanding finasteride formulations like Propecia and Proscar is still under U.S. Patent protection thereby restricting the manufacturing of this drug in companies which are under patent treaties with the United States. Generic versions of finasteride like Fincar are made by a pharmaceutical company called Cipla in India and is not available in the U.S. (although I suspect internet sales makes this possible). I am not familiar with International Patent laws so I am not qualified to comment on patent issues. I do know that foreign manufacturing of drugs are not governed by US FDA regulations, so I do not know if the formulation meets the same criteria. There is real no way for me to know if your symptoms are a direct result of taking Fincar. I also do not know about the additives and other inactive ingredients in the formulation. I am not aware that the official, U.S. brand of Propecia is associated with aching testicles or thinning eyebrows or dry, wrinkly skin. I am curious to know why you took the medication if you had read “numerous” reports that such drug will cause these problems.
Fincar may have caused your symptoms, but it may also have been coincidental. I suspect you do not want to take another chance. It is always a “buyer beware” market. Seek competent medical advice. I hope you return to “normal”
Sorry to hear about that guy’s experience with the pain – but must be an isolated case, or bad reaction, or something unrelated to the drug all together. I’m 27 – was 26 when I started fincar (1/4 tab on daily basis). I’ve noticed absolutely no side effects at all – apart from increased hair thickness on my head (back to my teen years), although a large area of hair at the front right temple is thinning and under threat of making the whole venture pointless – really annoying thing to happen in your twenties! I think fincar is holding it off, its certainly increased my hair thickness, and there is NO WAY IN THIS WORLD I COULD AFFORD THE EYE WARTERING PRICES OF PROPRECIA OR EVEN PROSCAR! It would be fair to say Cipla have saved my hair, as without it I would have lost it by now – that much is true!
I think the original questioner is a shill for Merck.
I think the good doctor sniffed a rat when he pointed out the “numerous reports” illogic but he was too tactful to point out that the guy was probably trying to scare us away from Fistide.
Hey,,,
I read all the comments wrote in this section..
My doctor has personally recommended fincar for use 2wice a week.
It is mainly used for male pattern baldness.
you sure finast is taken for prostrate cancer? Do you mean enlarged prostate? Over time (as we age) our prostate enlarges as it is exposed to DHT (that is my understanding), so this drug, in preventing testost to DHT convertion, stops the enlargment of the postrate gland – and as a bye-product is also prevents some hair-loss. Cancer implies malignant cells.
He still shouldnt have had probs with fincar, because your supposed to be able to take the higher dose for enlarged postate. So it still doesn’t make sense. Maybe he has other problems?
anyway, I’m still using fincar, and now I’m 29! Started using when I was 26, still no ill-effects (that I can feel) and still got my hair. Even had lengthy breaks from it, because im not as worried about my hair now. There is still a slightly thinner area around the right temple (which cant be seen), but overall hair is much thicker and possibly healthier.
I am 46 and have been using Fincar now for years. Not sure when i exactly started but i would hazard a guess at 2003. When i was 26 i probably did the dumbest thing and had a hair transplant ( which was ok ) using single hairs etc at the temple area.
As time went on i realised i either had to prevent more hair loss, have more transplant work or end up with a couple of horn like spikes. At the moment all is OK, i have not really lost too much more hair, the front is thinner but the crown has thick hair.
Who can say what would have happened without this Fincar. My father was bald at 30 so was my brother so genetically i was suseptable to total loss so im happy and had no side effects at all.
One thing to note is as you get older the worry decreases and now i could handle hair and make plans for the work i had nearly 20 years ago. But for the proce of Ffincar i am fine to continue.
Hello everyone. I have noticed that there are several happy fincar users on this site. I recently started using fincar 1/4 tablet a day and I hope to get the same results as most of you. My one question is where are you guys getting your Fincar from? I bought mine from unitedpharmacies.com which I have read mixed reviews about. My box does have the red stripe along the side which I’m not sure if it’s supposed to be on there or not. Thanks for your time. Your responses are greatly appreciated.
