Propecia Use 6 Years Ago Has Given Me Every Imaginable Side Effect
Used Propecia 6+ yrs ago and still experiencing the sexual side effects… From loss of libido, shrinkage in penis and testicles, wrinkled skin, crazy amount of numbness, loss of sensitivity, pre-mature ejac., ALL started with use of Propecia (used for 3 mos.) and over 6 years later, I almost feel like the side effects are getting worse and I haven’t touched the stuff since then. I sometimes feel like I want to smash my penis with a hammer just to feel something down there.
Also some random stumbling over words and thoughts but not sure if that is tied to it.
This has pretty much ruined 2 very important relationships and has made me a very depressed human being. Is there any way to fix this?
If you have thoughts of hammering your penis and you are depressed to the degree you describe, I would strongly recommend that you see doctor or a psychiatrist. There is help.
I do sympathize with u, I have been taking proscar for about 8-9 years with good results, but slowly i am seeing the benefits go down. I do agree with u about penis size, mine i notice did shrink and its hard to feel anything sometimes. I haven’t stopped the medication for a long period of time, except for i believe cple months about 4-5 years ago. Nothing drastic happened. I think my problems started when i started to up the dosage of the medication and take half a pill a day. I’m hoping to stop it eventually and see if everything goes back to normal. But b/c the pill is working so well i don’t want to stop it.
I’m amazed that from such severe side effects that one would continue treatment for 6 years. If something is harming your body this much, you only have yourself to blame when you keep at it for 6 years.
You’re right Jeremy, my mistake. I misread the post; he was only on it for 3 months, not 6 years.
SeattleMD, do you believe there is a possibility that the original posters continual symptoms were caused by his temporal use of finasteride?
When he says “I ALMOST feel like the side effects are getting worse”, that literally means he does not believe the side effects are getting worse. He could have communicated this idea more clearly, since ALMOST means “NOT QUITE”. He is probably speaking figuratively to mean that it is becoming increasingly more difficult for him to manage the effects of the drug.
He also does not want to literally smash his penis with a hammer. The linguistic usage of the word LIKE indicates he is again, speaking metaphorically, to emphasize his frustration and indicate in an exaggerated way that his penis is so numb that it would require the force of a smash for his body to register feeling.
Unfortunately, a psychiatrist is unlikely to offer any help that will cure his problem physiologically, but speaking to a therapist may help him come to terms with the obstacles and impediments that he now faces possibly for life. I suppose it is still worth pursuing the help of a psychiatrist, but having reasonable expectations is important to avoid devastating disappointment.
I’ve been on 1.25mg proscar daily, and have yet to have 1 negative side effect. Been about 4 months.
