Reader Wants Me to Believe Him Regarding Masturbation and Hair Loss
Hi doc
i have read all of the emails on the link between hair loss and masturbation. I have been loosing my hair since i was 13 and despite evryone telling me there is no link between them i feel i can provide proof. Basically if i stop having masturbation my hair stops falling out, and when given a couple of days doing this combined with brushing my scalp once or twice a day my hair feels noticably stronger and literally starts growing back. I have taken photos before and after doing this that shows it. Of corse when i have sex or masturbate it starts falling out again and my hair feels weak and i also get strong sharp pains from the root of my hair. I have seen many dermtologists but they say its MPB and nothing i can do. This has torchered me throughout my teens. Is there any way you could belive me?
There is no clinical evidence or proof that masturbation leads to hair loss or blindness or even hairy palms. There is no scientific justification for your statement that, “hair feels weak and i also get strong sharp pains from the root of my hair”. Look, if you strongly believe that this is a cause of your hair loss then you should follow your instincts about masturbating in order to keep your hair.
For everyone else, there is no relation. I’ve gone on and on and on and on and on about this, and yet somehow I’m sure this won’t be the last time this discussion comes up.
Doctor, your reasoning is flawed…
“There is no clinical evidence or proof that masturbation leads to hair loss or blindness or even hairy palms. ”
There is no clinical or scientific evidence that there is no correlation (‘correlation’ is not necessarily causation, mind you) whatsoever between masturbation and hair loss. The Earth was round long before humans *realized* it was round, before there was any *available* evidence that it was not square.
“There is no scientific justification for your statement that, ‘hair feels weak and i also get strong sharp pains from the root of my hair’. ”
Science is based on observation. There’s no justification in concluding that, absolutely, there is a connection between masturbation and hair loss but we have reason to believe there might be. If several, *several* men notice a correlation, it is *not* scientific to dismiss their claims on the basis that ‘there is no scientific evidence to support’. You are simply not being objective and you’re supposed to be a scientist…
I don’t know whether or not there’s a conenction but I’m not closedminded to either argument. I have reason to believe that high levels of prolactin (prolactin raises after orgasm) contribute to hair loss and prolactin triggers the production of the enzyme 5 alpha reductase. Can you counter this?
If the man’s hair falls out after he masturbates and grows back after he stops, I simply cannot understand how you’re so comfortable in dismissing it without a second though. How else do you explain this? Why do you offer no alternative theories?
Hi..
First of all..a very good reply by knowledge..secondly..i have the same issue,..i lose my hair when i masturbate..i used to have very long hair ..but after a year or two when i started to masturbate regularly i started to lose my hair..it is 100% true that there is a relation b/w masturbation and hair loss..if the science has not proved that, it means still a lot of research is needed..”it starts falling out again and my hair feels weak and i also get strong sharp pains from the root of my hair” ..This is exactly what happens to me..i can feel the itching after i masturbate..if i avoid masturbating my hair are better..thicker..less oily…fine..i was looking for this problem of mine on the web when i came across this blog..But one this..doctor said it right we should avoid masturbating if WE know its the reason we are loosing our hair..its a war i am fighting against it for the past 6 years..and i will win one day!
