Styling Glue and Hair Loss?
Can styling products like LA spikes or Got 2 B glued cause temporary hair loss in younger people? I ask this because i’ve always had a high hairline, and I used the 99c store stuff to spike it, being that its cheap it doesn’t last that long and isnt as heavy in the things that kinda poison your hair slowly. I recently switched to a product by the name of Got2b Glued, this is literally hair cement. For awhile this product worked wonders, but the more I used it the more I noticed hair in the spiky areas falling out.
My hair is more a thin dirty blonde type, like most of my family and we have absolutely no history of balding.
Thank you for reading, please reply soon.
Gels and glues used for styling purposes do not cause hair loss. Before looking to blame a hair product or medication as a cause for hair loss, you must know that the most common form of hair loss in men is genetic androgenic alopecia (AGA), otherwise known as male pattern baldness (MPB).
While certain hair products may not work as well on some individuals, there is really no way for me to tell you that your hair product is causing your hair loss. You need a miniaturization study and a good examination to confirm what is really going on. What you’re seeing is likely just coincidence.
got 2b glued? I started using it as well. at first it was great, like hair cement. but then after about a few months, i too, noticed that i had a few small balding stops on my head, in random areas. i discontinued the product. i dont want to point my finger at the product but i did not change any other hair product that i have been using for a long time. hair loss is genetic? my dad is over 60, full hair of jet black hair, my mom has no signs of hair loss at all. in fact, non of my family members, that i know, have any hair loss.
I too have a theory that a gel I’ve been using was doing the same. For a long time I was using regular clubmen gel. Upon switching to Spike it, by beyond the zone, I started to notice my hair thinning in the top portion of my scalp. I used to use a different gel on the sides than the top. I now don’t use the gel anymore and am waiting to see if the hair maybe kicks into growth again. My parents both also have no baldness, my father 50 years old full black hair, never dyed.
I started using this product and have noticed my hair is starting to fall out. I am 23 years old and have, up until this point, had a full head of hair and have never experienced any type of hair loss. Say what you want about hair products not causing hair loss but I haven’t even finished my tube of Got2B Glued and my hair is falling out!
Right, I started using this product and it is amazing, though my hair is starting to shed. I’m going to have to return and find another product.
My hair is thinning as well after using it
I have a short haircut and purchased a tube of Got2B, after using for a couple of weeks, I noticed my hair was coming out in small clumps. I don’t know if the product is the reason, but I have stopped using it.
I have been using this same product for about 4 months,so I said what the heck I googled got2b hair loss today July 7th 2015…chucks of my hair is coming out when I shower out this gel…there is no coincidence…. That the people who commented are having the same issue….there is a reason we all googled the same thing…
Alright, I’m pretty convinced got2b glued spiking glue is causing hair loss. I had a full set of hair and I’m getting bald spots after only 4 weeks of using this product. I noticed a ton of hair just falling off my head even at the laundromat as I waited. Just was watching streams and noticed all the hair around the table where I was sitting. My mother has no balding in her family and my fathers side still has thick hair all the way up into their 80’s. I am 27 years old and have never had bald spots on my head till now. You can’t say that this hair product isn’t causing problems because young people that shouldn’t be balding are. I officially will never use it again.
i was curious so i looked this up because i swear since i started using this about 3-4 weeks ago i have noticed hair falling freely as well. even right now as im typing this, i look down at my desk and i see hairs just from rubbing my head like a normal person. my father also has a full jet black head of hair and he is 58. no one in my fam has any baldness. i agree with everyone here that this product is specifically responsible and i think its time for a class action lawsuit. what i really wanna know is since i stopped using it last night, will it grow back. because not only did i notice shedding, i noticed my hair is growing anymore. i will never use this again, thats a fact.
dad is 90 n has a full head of hair. Mom passed at 83 with a full head of black hair. Used this product and immediately noticed a few strands here and there so i went back to the cbeap stuff. No problems. Tried another tube and a few weeks in im freaking buying a can of.rogaine my hair was dropping from my hair so bad!!! This is bad stuff guys!!!
Used this product got 2b glue 2plus years my thick hair is now a thin stringy mess. My hair damaged breaking off close to scAlp in random places. Product works great if you want to ruin your hair. Not for everyday use.
I’ve been using this product for a good while now. A while ago I realized that strands of hair were randomly falling out of my head. There is an area thinning on the top of my head, I think it definitely is this product.
Crazy!! For about 3 years straight I used the got2b glued get and hairspray. No where in my family (both sides) is hair loss prevalent.. I am 33 and have to shave my head every other week because certain sections of my hair no longer grows. I am certain that these products are responsible. I had a lady at the barber shop tell me that they contain chemicals (for the “water proof” element they advertised) that basically burn all the way down to the roots.. thus causing the temporary hair losss. But the “cement” hair gel basically plugs the hair follicles and suffocates it causing permanent balding. Yeah, all bad.
Omg, it’s caused my hair to fall out like crazy. Been using the product a couple of years. Im going bald. Going to purchase rogaine
I have been using this product regularly as in every 1 to 2 days since I was 19. I’m now 27. As of three weeks ago I began to notice thining on the left and right sides of my bang area. As mentioned above I have always had thick hair also and im unaware of anyone in my family that suffered sings of MPB in their 20s ? As a precaution I discontinued as well. However If the product is responsible I find it odd that it would of have taken 7 plus years for thinning to manifest…
I know this is my personal experience, but most of these commenters need to stop blaming hair gel for their genetic predisposition to hair loss. I’ve been using Got2b Glued everyday for two years without any hair loss issues at all.
I started using the hair spray and glue last year on a regular basis, up until 2 weeks ago. After a couple of months I started to break out on my scalp. The more I used it,the worse it got. Within the past 5 months my hair is seriously falling out. Small chunks at a time. A friend of mine said he quit using it because his hair was falling out too. This sucks. I like my hair. ALOT!!!!
I also used this product, the glue that is . I used to spike my hair with it and then I decided to shave it all off ,then when I grew it back it was so thin an I now have bald spots too, someone needs to do a study on this product ! My hair was so thick before hand
This product has slowly made my hair fall out, this product should be banned. I am really conscious about my hair and now having to think about some sort of hair transplant which is going to cost thousands. I would reccomend anyone reading this blog to think before using got2b hairspray. I am really pissed off with myself that I never saw this prior to using this because my hair most probably would of been alright. I am considering suing Schwarzkopf as this has made a dramatic impact on my life.
I have used this product for over 10 years and I do not have any hair loss thank God. I do feel for you guys but I do not believe this has to do with the gel. If this was the case than I guess I am a lucky customer.
For those who have used this product, did you use it on your own hair? The reason I ask is because I’m interested in purchasing this item to install a lace frontal. Therefore, I won’t be using a large amount. Only a pea-size amount in the front on my edges or baby hairs to stabilize the frontal. I’m concerned that once I take my frontal out that I won’t have anymore edges lol. So I’m trying to understand how much of the product did you use to accomplish your hair style and where did you apply it. Thanks in advance!
Hey hun. I’ve been using the (yellow) got 2 b glued for frontal, and full lace wigs for about a year. It’s been fine. If you leave it overnight and keep re-applying then it can make ur hair very solid, which I’m sure would lead 2 your edges breaking. I make a habit of washing it off every night,if not every 2. You should be okay, as long as you don’t neglect your hair!
The freeze spray is also good 4 days when your in a rush or for extra hold with the gel.
The only thing that’s worrying me is the fact that I just started using the ultra glued (black) jel. It hold is serious. Went to re-purchase and it is sold out every/ not available online. The yellow gel is looking a lil sparse on the shelves.. So now after reading tons of breakage articles I’m wondering uf they are slyly discontinuing as prolonged use may be causing hair loss.
