TED Talk: The Great Porn Experiment (with Video)
I watched a TED Talk recently that gave rise to many questions as to the actual percentage of sexual dysfunction/erectile dysfunction attributed to medications for hair regrowth. According to these scientific studies, hyper stimulation brought about by our internet lifestyle and in particular by pornographic images plays a major role in sexual desensitization that profoundly affects the intimate relationships with our partners.
I noted that the age group of men that had the most significant issues regarding sexual dysfunction aligned with the age group of men that sought solutions to hair loss and thinning with medications to prevent the fallout of hair.
I am not saying that the viewing of porn is to blame for all sexual dysfunction, only that there are co-factors that appear to significantly compound the problem. We wrote about a study that linked porn and ED a couple years ago here.
I have posted the video below and welcome your comments.
I think its a bit laughable (and scary) that Dr. Rassman will try to use this presentation to imply that pornography is causing problems in most of the people who actually are suffering from finasteride-related sexual problems.
This presentation has almost zero credibility – it is not an official Ted Talk, rather it is an independently organized community event with no quality control. It is not given by an MD or a PhD but rather a layperson with an interest in internet porn. If this were a real phenomenon there would be literally millions of men in their twenties currently suffering from porn-induced erectile dysfunction with an abundance of research subjects to study in the literally non-existent scientific literature.
Research on finasteride related side effects faces much more difficult logistical problems, yet when superior evidence is presented the doctor chooses to side with the community selected ‘porn-expert’. *Rolls eyes*
Porn induced ED is real! I’m a sufferer! When I masturbate to porn I get hard rock erections but when I’m with a woman I experience tons of problems. I take a small dose of levitra to perfrom sexually. I’m only 26 years old. I noticed the erection problems came on gradually over the a year and a half. I been on Propecia for 5 years.
I hope this isn’t too graphic. For myself, it wasn’t propecia or pornography… it was the masturbatory technique. It’s very easy for the body to become conditioned to a certain method, one which is very hard for a female to replicate.
Once one gives up (or limits) masturbation, it becomes much easier to enjoy sex to the fullest extent.. at least in my experience. I would imagine for some it may very well be necessary to give up pornography.
