Transplanting in Just the Crown?

Dear Doctor: My hair is pretty much limited to the crown/vertex. I have been on .5mg Avodart now for 5 months. The loss has seemed to stabilize and has possibly reversed somewhat. My question is this: do you do hair transplants in just the crown? There is no shiny skin, just a good thinning spot in the back. Is shock fallout more prevelant when done in the back? Thanks!

If you are having reversal of the hair loss with Avodart (dutasteride) in just 5 months, I would finish out a year of treatment before considering hair transplants, as you may just get enough hair from the drug to deal with your problem. If, after a year on the drug, you still have not met your needs for fullness, a transplant can be done, but I would want you to stay on the drug to prevent shock loss. Also, prior to accepting you as a patient I would want to evaluate you with regard to your supply/demand hair profile for future hair loss.
