Transplanting Patient with DUPA?
Hello Dr. Rassman,
I am a 26 y/o asian male who recently sought consultation from a doctor concerning my hair loss. I was diagnosed with diffuse unpatterned alopecia. I also have been on propecia for 8 months and have been experiencing all sorts of sexual side effects. My questions to you are:
1. Will I never be able to get a hair transplant since I do have DUPA?
2. Do people with DUPA at my age generally experience extensive balding, or does it sometimes stabilize?
3. I have heard that the sexual side effects from propecia do sometimes take a while to go away. If they were to go away, would they be gone by now?I have become very depressed and frustrated b/c from what I’ve read from your blog, only 1% of the male population have DUPA and only 1% of males experience sexual side effects from propecia. I feel like I have no options and no nope in solving this problem. Any advice you could provide would be very appreciated. Thank you Dr. Rassman.
This disease, DUPA, never goes away. In men, it may be a problem similar to female genetic diffuse hair loss and this condition rarely gets better, even spontaneously. If you did not respond to Propecia, you are probably not a responder and I would probably recommend stopping the drug, but it is your decision and one that has to weigh out the benefits and the liabilities. I know that I would rather be bald then to give up my sex life. I am not your doctor and was not there when the diagnosis was made, so it is difficult to give advice. Sorry!
