Twins Taking Dutasteride — Is it Photoshopped?
Hello dr.Rassman
Is this true? TwinsHairLoss.com
Can dutasteride be so effective on maintaining hair? Or is it photoshop?
I hadn’t seen this site before. After reviewing the photos, my first thought was that they were fraternal (not identical) twins, but they claim they are identical twins and post pictures of their childhood years. I have no way to 100% verify that the photos were not doctored, but you can use your best judgment there.
Taking everything at face value, the difference in hair growth/loss seems remarkable between the twins and shows that dutasteride works for androgenic alopecia (male pattern baldness). But the misleading point (which I do not think was intentional) is that the casual readers may infer that dutasteride is “THE” drug to take. Propecia (finasteride) works in the similar manner as dutasteride in targeting DHT.
At this time, only Propecia is approved by the FDA for treating androgenic alopecia. Dutasteride is a drug prescribed for men with certain prostate issues and the long term side effects on young men are not clearly established. Proper dosage of dutateride for treating hair loss is also not clear. For those interested in taking dutasteride, you’ll need to find a doctor willing to prescribe it to you for off-label use. It should be noted that Propecia has its own fiercely debated side effect discussion on this site and the Internet, and dutasteride side effects are likely to occur in those that experience side effects from Propecia.
Did you remark the skin of the twin that take dutasteride ? very oily…. also the bear appear less predominant than his brother…
Nick
That’s such an obvious sales site with its convenient link to an online pharmacy….
Feel bad for the one twin that didn’t take dutasteride early on, they both look really young still, how old are they? The one bro who did take the drug earlier on doesn’t even look like he had hair loss to being with.
The term ‘identical twin’ has no exact scientific counterpart. Twins can be Monozygotic or Dizygotic. Loosely speaking, Monozygotic twins have near ‘identical’ DNA but this need not have any implications for the similarity in appearance. Dizygotic twins are essentially regular siblings born of the same pregnancy and like any pair of siblings (even siblings separated by a few years) can look very similar to each other. In summary, ‘identical’ (actually monozygotic) twins need not look alike while fraternal (dizygotic) twins could look like carbon copies of each other. Similarity of appearance therefore, is neither a necessary nor a sufficient condition for establishing monozygoticity.
What a bizarre website…I wonder what those twins have to gain form this, besides an on-line paharmacy link, selling Nanogen fibres and offering a newsletter – why bother with all this? And why promote a drug for a non-intended use – isn’t that immoral (if not illegal)?
thats a fake website, most likely lol. there is no way, that is possible. they are most likely using concelears and such. you can tell the pics are fake.
Eli, I find it rather amusing that you loosely accuse a site of being fake without any research done to verify this claim either way.
It’s typical of people on the internet, passing judgement within the blink of an eye, as soon as something unique comes along, let’s presume it’s fake right away without any thought.
Oh yeah and who made you a photoshop or photography expert as well?
