Vitamin-D Deficiency and Hair Loss?
Does having a vitamin D deficency cause hair loss? I’m a 26 yr. old female and I’ve been going through what the Doctors are calling TE. After all the blood work, my iron levels were just below normal, but the more alarming results were my vitamin D levels. I was wondering if you thought a vitamin D deficency could result in hair loss?
Some researchers believe that vitamin-D regulates the expression of genes. When scientists knocked out those genes in mice, the mice displayed vitamin D deficient symptoms of rickets and hair loss. Correcting vitamin-D makes sense if you believe you are deficient in vitamin-D. Check with your doctor about how to manage the process.
I noticed a few days ago that my receding hairline is filling back in. I have been taking anywhere from 2000 IU- 8000 IU of Vit D daily for several months..some days I forget to take any though. I am a 52 y/o female and I started taking Vit D a couple of years ago after I read about how we are deficient in it. And it boosts immune system, helps our organs heal, and joint pain. If I don’t take any for a week or so my legs, hips, hands and ankles hurt…with it they are without pain. And depression is non existant in me..it hasn’t been a real big problem but a light case occasionally in the past. Now my hair is filling in the gaps and I see new growth around hairline!! A huge plus in my book… Please ask your MD though about the dosing as too much can be toxic…
