Viviscal for Women?
Hello,I am a 31 years old female and a mother of one child. I am currently losing hair on the top of my head, you can actually see scalp. My hair has become very thin. I have always had fine hair but it is curly so I can cover it up very easily. I have been looking around for something to help me and came across Viviscal. Would you recommend this for a woman who has excessive body hair? If not what do you recomend? I thought of Rogaine but I hate the idea of having to take it forever.
Thank you
I don’t recommend Viviscal, as it hasn’t been proven to my satisfaction to treat hair loss. It also isn’t FDA approved, as it is just regarded as an over the counter supplement. The key ingredient appears to be a marine protein extract, so if you’ve got a fish allergy you should steer clear. Another key ingredient is vitamin C. While the product might help nourish your hair, I don’t know that it would treat hair loss, particularly if it is genetic in nature. Otherwise if you wish to use it, that is your choice to make.
For women, your options for treating hair loss are unfortunately rather limited. Have you seen a doctor to find out what the possible cause of your hair loss is? We compiled a partial list of female hair loss causes here.
Hi I just wanted to respond the question about vivscal for women..I have had a bit of hair thinning as I got older (i am a 31 year old female) I started using viviscal in february and at my last hair appointment, new growth was very visisble all over my head. I have new hari growing that is about 2 inches long. I would suggest she try it out.
Just in response to this, and your comments on the initial question. I am a 27 year old female and starting noticing significant hair loss around the start of 2010. I put a lot of research into it and tried a few different solutions. Being honest Vivisal and Rogaine were the only ones that worked for me. I have settled with Viviscal though because it doesn’t have minoxidil. It probably makes no difference but I prefer the natural supplements in general.Referring to the proof, when I was first looking through the market Viviscal seemed to have some of the most substantial evidence that it worked on their website. That’s my two cents anyway.
Hi, I tried using Viviscal when my hair started thinning and falling out after a period of stress. It took a little time (3-4 months) but my hair started to thicken and grow back. I have noticed that now I am not taking it my hair is thinner again. I would thoroughly recommend it. (Female age 41)
Dr. Rassman,
Thanks for providing your opinion on Viviscal. As a skeptic on most non-surgical hair loss treatments other than those that have been FDA approved, I see that Coalition member Dr. Glenn Charles endorses this product. Upon interviewing him, Dr. Charles feels that it may have marginal success in some hair loss suffering men and women. I tried posting a link to the article we’ve written in my comments however, I suspect that caused my comments to be removed/deleted. I’m obviously not a spammer, so I’m not sure why my comment would be removed.
Best wishes,
