What Type of Doctor for Body Dysmorphic Disorder?
My boyfriend, 27, has body dysmorhic disorder which is primarily fixated on his hair. However, he also suffers from a condition feels like his faces and scalp are pulling to one side. His hair stylist commented on this the last time he went get a hair cut. What type of doctor should he go to? I believe it atypical facial pain although he has not been diagnosed. His neurologist is doing all sorts of tests to rule out other things like lupus and lymes disease etc. Please do not say plastic surgeon, that is the last person he needs to see.
If the neurologist rules out an organic problem, then a psychiatrist is probably the best one to deal with it. Body dysmorphic disorder is an obsessive compulsive problem, often best treated with medications in addition to therapy.
