Young Teen Girl Experiencing Major Hair Loss
Hello. I have been experiencing excess hair loss, which is making me very stressed out. I am scared to brush and wash my hair that its so bad. I am only a 13 year old female, and I really do not want to go bald by the age of 14. Yes, I do have a full head of hair, and no, it is not getting thinner. My parents set me up an appointment with a very good dermatologist. Nobody, on both sides of my family, have any hair loss problems. Everyone has extremely thick hair, including me. I have a few questions though:
- I have experienced major vaginal yeast infections, so could this be the problem?
- Can puberty cause hair loss? If so, is it permanent or temporary?
- When you say hair loss can be temporary, how long is temporary?
- Can the Hair, Skin, and Nails vitamins treat hair loss?
Please pleaseplease please help me, sir. I can not force myself to have fun, when I know I am losing 150-160 hairs a day. I’M SCARED! HELP HELP HELP! :(
Thanks for your time, and have a good day Dr.
- Vaginal yeast infection is not a cause for hair loss.
- Puberty can trigger changes in hair character because hormones do influence hair thickness, but this report is unusual. I would rather look for other causes of your hair loss.
- Hair loss, if it is temporary, may return after a few months to a year as the hair cycles over the course of many months, but you must be healthy and I would first check out the various causes of hair loss in young women with your family doctor.
- Vitamins do not cure hair loss, but many supplement advertisers want you to think so.
You need to have a complete evaluation by a good family doctor as the cause of your hair loss most likely lies there.
how long are the hairs you’ve been seeing.. I think alot of times when a woman starts noticing hairs come out when they comb, it could be for two reasons.. 1.) they just never took notice before 2.) the hairs could simply be breakage..if your hair is 12in. long and it breaks at 8in. you still have the rest of the hair in your head..
my hair will not stop falling out it depends normally about 200 hairs a day my hair seems to be getting thinner and i dont no what to do please help me??
can you advice any tablets to stop this problem?
I’m in your exact same position. I’m 13 and when i comb or wash my hair clumps of hair keep falling out and i can’t even feel them falling out. It depresses me and our hair may be falling out because you put it in a hairstyle that pulls at your hair for a long time. I think thats the case for me but I’ve only stopped tying my hair in a ponytail for a week and it doesn’t seem to stop falling out. Is there a hair loss specialist that won’t try to make you surgically put hair on your head?

I was in a bad car accident and i was in the hospital for about a week. When i returned home from the hospital I had to go back 5 days later. Come to find out, when they operated on my lungs, (because I broke 4 ribs and one punchered my lung) I developed a M.R.S.A. infection, so I was put on I.V. vancamison. By that time I started to notice that my hair was falling out and they told me that my hair would start to fall out. I’ve been off the medicine for almost 2 months, I’m a very healthy 18 year old female, what do i do??

KODIAK…TALK TO YOUR FAMILY!!! Let them help you with this! That is what family is for. It may be embarassing, but if there are other health issues tied into your hair loss, they should help you. Plus, having the moral support is good.
My daughter, like the “Young Teen Girl Experiencing Hair Loss” has also had repeat issues with yeast these last several months. We found out she is allergic to a chemical in her yeast medicine. That didn’t help. But I’ve noticed some extreme hair loss. She has long hair (over 12″) and it is always all over her sink and filling her brush. I noticed today, that her part is starting to extend down the back of her head (like a forked trail, splitting into a Y shape). I am also concerned, as I have experienced sever hair loss in the past 2 years at age 43. They thought mine might be stress/trauma related, but it is not improving. Could molds or other environmental causes be causing these symptoms in my daughter and I? Could it be part of an immune system reacton, as she has many issues with food intolerances causing immune system “challenges.” Could we be sharing a hormonal issue, now that she has her period and we are “in sync.” as far as I know, there is no hair loss problem on either side of the family (other than my dad).
