It would be interesting to read some studies about baldness in identical twins, since they share the same dna, in order to asses to what extent the previous statement is true. I have had many identical twins come in to see me, some for hair transplants. I have written about them and generally my writings […]

Why did my brothers hair start thinning two years before mine. Also I think he got telogen effluvium and then two years after I got telogen effluvium which accelerated our hair loss. I was diagnosed with telogen effluvium but I didn’t get a scalp biopsy(it was a pull test). I want to know if I […]
I have a fraternal twin who at 21 hasn’t started thinning yet while I have some minor loss. We have had quite a few identical twins. I wrote about such a case here: https://baldingblog.com/transplanting-identical-twins/ Fraternal twins are not the same as they may have inherited different balding patterns.
Snippet from the article: Read the rest — One sister has alopecia and the other has a full head of hair Identical twins… yet one has alopecia universalis and the other doesn’t. One of the leaders in alopecia research is Dr. Angela Christiano, and the rest of the article talks about how this case is […]
Yes, we have done this on one occasion. Twins have to be identical twins (exact same DNA) and not fraternal twins. If one wants to donate to another, it’s their choice and wishes. I would want to know both of the twins and understand the reason for transplanting from one to the other. In a […]
I would guess that the twin taking Propecia will not lose the same amount of hair as the untreated twin, but that would depend upon the final pattern of the non-treated twin. The lower the Norwood balding pattern (see
I just saw pictures of identical twins, one transplanted with 3000 grafts and the other not. The twin who had transplants, also took Propecia at less than the recommended dose, while the non-transplanted twin did not take Propecia at all. The difference between the two was dramatic, of course. I have seen many identical twins […]
My hairline has both started thinning and receding; I’m probably a Norwood 2/2.5. He shows no signs of receding / thinning. I wonder what sort of things could cause this? I’d say we live pretty identical lives in terms of activity/diet / don’t smoke / medications, nothing crazily out of proportion. So I wonder what […]
I just turned 20 and recently started taking propecia as my doctor told me I have lost about 40 percent of my crown hair using haircheck (None of this is visible). Even I was surprised to learn that I was actually balding. There is baldness in my genes but it’s not really aggressive or noticeable […]
“In the study, Finnish researchers in the journal: Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise, looked at 10 pairs of identical twin men. Each set of twins was in their mid-30s, and each had been brought up in the same household. Since they were identical, they also shared the same DNA. The only difference was […]
We have seen many identical twins (same genes) over our 23 years at NHI but they do not bald or lose hair at the same time. Maybe several months to years apart. This may suggest some outside influence. For example one set of twins twin used anabolic steroid and lost his hair fast while his […]
We have known for years that stress accelerates the impact on balding for genetic hair loss. Your brother may eventually catch up with you, as you both age further. It is perfectly safe to use Rogaine and finasteride at the same time, and splitting a Proscar pill into 4 pieces is equivalent to taking Propecia.
I hadn’t seen this site before. After reviewing the photos, my first thought was that they were fraternal (not identical) twins, but they claim they are identical twins and post pictures of their childhood years. I have no way to 100% verify that the photos were not doctored, but you can use your best judgment […]
Unfortunately, transplanting hair from any person other than an identical twin will fail and get rejected. Hair is like any other organ transplant, which would require anti-rejection medication that could lead to further health complications. I’ve written about this process and the medication required before.
I understand that fraternal twins have completely different genetics (unlike identical twins). However, from your experiences with patients, if one fraternal twin is suffering from MPB at a young age (20), will the other twin be more at risk to suffer from hair loss in the future? That is not true. The genes for balding […]
