Hello Doctor, what are your thoughts on person to person hair transplants? Person to person hair transplants only works with identical twins because with non-identical twins or other person to person hair transplants, each hair follicular unit (a complete organ system) rejects as would a kidney or a liver. I have done one set of […]

If i remove testicles do i gain my hair back and where do they do such operations? Knowing that hair transplant is expensive , with average results and success rate i am trying to know my options This was done back in the 1920s when identical twins we compared by a psychiatrist. One was a […]
This is a common question asked of me over the 27 years I have practiced in this field. I did transplant identical twins hair, from one to the other with great success but they had the exact same genetics, so that their body didn’t know the difference between them or the hair from one to […]
Environment and behavioral issues do play a role in genetic balding. We call these epigenetic factors and we can see them when identical twins are separated and show different degrees of balding. I had a pair of identical twins, one twin had a hair system the other did not. The one who wore the hair […]
For those that missed part 1 of this series, please read up here. — Ho Shou Wu, although not studied by western medicine, has a long history in Chinese medicine as a pro-hair herb. I have no idea if the shake would perform any better than a placebo. There are so many ingredients in his […]
Snippet from the article: Read the full story — Could Divorce Trigger Hair Loss in Women? The study looked at sets of identical twins and determined that excessive alcohol and smoking increased the risk, in both men and women. The study also revealed that sun exposure is also believed to be a factor in hair […]
Propecia (finasteride 1mg) is taken for the treatment of male pattern baldness on the scalp. There aren’t official statements or side effect reports that indicate that Propecia affects body hair. I do hear on occasion that Propecia decreases body hair, and some of our readers have commented that they actually lost body hair from Propecia […]
We know that if the testicles were removed (as done in one of two identical twins in a study in the 1950s) that hair loss will not occur. We also know that once the hair has been exposed to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), the impact is dramatic in the speed of the hair loss. The twin that […]
Hair could be donated from other people just like organ donation, but without drugs to suppress the immune response, it will be rejected. Patients who are receiving an organ transplant need to be matched before the surgery for antigen compatibility and stay on anti-rejection medication for the rest of their lives. If you have an […]
The process of genetic balding is produced by DHT (Dihydrotestosterone). If there was no DHT, balding would not occur. The way to prove this is to remove the testicles. If genetic balding had not already started, it would certainly not start after removing the testicles. This has been shown classically when one of two identical […]
No, hair from one person can not be moved to another person unless they are identical twins. A hair transplant from another person would be like a heart, liver, or kidney transplant and without powerful medications, these organs will be rejected by the body.
Good question! I have not heard of that story, but that is a very real possibility. Male pattern hair loss is in part due to a hormone called dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is a breakdown product of testosterone. If a man is missing his testicles, which is the source of the majority of testosterone in his […]
I do have experience transplanting hair from different people but they were identical twins. Otherwise, the difference in our individual genetic makeup will reject the ‘foreign’ hair.
What animal did you have in mind? As if fur coats aren’t bad enough, what would PETA say? You answered your own question — the body’s response to the hairs would prevent transplanting animals to humans (or humans to other humans, unless they are identical twins).
Sorry, but only identical twins are candidates for exchanging donor hair.
