I think that you are focusing on the wrong issue. First, you want to make sure that you don’t have some condition that will kill off your hair like Frontal Fibrosing Alopecia or related entities. Assuming that you do not, and you said you were disappointed with the results of your last surgery as some of the grafts failed to grow, it may be likely that the problem was with the surgical team (including the surgeon who is captain of the ship). Both FUE and FUT in the hands of experienced and well disciplined surgeons and teams, work reliably. As a female, an FUT is a better option for two reasons (1) you don’t have to shave the back of your head and (2) you had on FUT before so the surgeon can work in the same place and if there is a scar there, the surgeon can remove it at the time of the next surgery. This time get the right surgeon to do the right job, with FUT or if you are willing to shave the back of your head, then FUE works well.
I heard shampooing everyday isn’t good so I am trying to space it out more and do twice a week or so. However, on the off days, I plan to use conditioner but not sure which one. Does conditioner help with hair loss? I never proactively used it in the past so I am not sure. Also how long do you guys keep the shampoo and conditioner in for?
One of the problems that make hair loss of fragile hair worse, it combing and brushing hair that pulls out miniaturized or weak hairs early. The use of good conditioners, solves the pulling problem because the comb and the brush glide through the hairs with less pulling.
How long after am I able to trim the implanted section so that the transplant does not look noticeable. I also have redness in the recipient area, why is that?
Most of my patients can trim their hair or get a hair cut in 2 weeks after an FUE. The presence of redness on the skin is either infection or just a histamine reaction in your skin. Your doctor can tell you which it is.
My practice has been 100% hair transplants since 1991 (27 years). That is all we do. I built a highly specialized team of people who I have personally trained. Many have been with me for years and once they are there, they don’t leave because the environment is great, the wages are good, the results are great and the patients appreciate everyone who worked on them. Since I only do hair transplants, I never get distracted by patients that come in for other reasons. My staff have been practicing and improving their skills every working day for years. We have no salesmen working for us and we do all of the consultations ourselves, one-on-one with each patient and give about an hour of our time which is free to the patient. Most of our patients do their research before coming to see us, so that they know who we are and why we are so highly rated. I have published almost every advance in the field over the past 27 years, from Follicular Unit Transplants, the Megasession, the FUE and we even invented the hair transplant robot with two patents issued to us and we licensed it to the company that built the ARTAS robot. We hold Open House events every month where you can meet our patients, one-on-one, see a surgery and get a free consultation with the doctor. I have been doing this for 27 years because I am proud of our patients and our work. Doctors who don’t do this full time can’t have the experience we do. We have performed over 16,000 hair transplant procedures since 1991 and the first FUE patients in the world was presented to the world through publications in peer reviewed journals. So, check us out on Realself and Yelp, but better than that, come to one of our Open House events so you can meet and see many patients who are examples of our work.
I am a 28 year old single female. 3 years ago I started losing a lot of hair, my my estimate almost 70% of my hair. Now I have started multivitamin for the past 3 months and the hair stopped falling out and some regrowth has happened. Shall I get PRP added to what I am doing?
If you have seen value from taking multivitamins, then you may have a Vitamin deficiency and you should get the various blood tests to document which type of problem you have rather than treat it blindly. Doing PRP is just grasping for straws and does not make sense in the absence of a diagnosis and you may be wasting your money or worse, losing hair while you fail to get the right treatment for your ‘unknown’ condition.
I am having good results from taking finasteride but I understand that dutasteride is a better DHT blocker. Should I switch?
Dutasteride has a risk of sterility and some studies suggest that increases insulin resistance and NAFLD. There is also a bigger is the risk of gynecomastia compared to fin 1 mg? The sterility and insulin problems have not been reported with finasteride and considering that you have good results with finasteride, I would not suggest that you switch?.
The hair loss behind what is still a strong hairline. In some Indian men, these strong hairlines can persist for many years even if the hair behind it goes. His pattern from other photos not shown here, is almost certainly going to develop into a Class 6 pattern so I told him to postpone surgery at this time. He should try the drug Finpecia (available in India) as this drug might reverse the hair loss especially when used in conjunction with minoxidil.
Too many young men want to rush hair transplants and too many doctors are happy to take their money and do it; however, hair transplants done too early, may leave the man with a balding pattern that the doctor and the patient never planned for (and that would be bad for the patient but the doctor has already pocked the money and I am sure it cleared his bank account)
This is a common question asked of me over the 27 years I have practiced in this field. I did transplant identical twins hair, from one to the other with great success but they had the exact same genetics, so that their body didn’t know the difference between them or the hair from one to the other.
A paper was published in Korea that suggested a way to do this in people, but showed the results in mice here: https://m.koreabiomed.com/news/articleView.html?idxno=4920
Mice are very different than people, so I wound not rush to South Korea with your wife or mother to get their hair on your bald head. This is more a dream than reality.
I wanted to voice my gratitude for your posts! You are seriously one of the most helpful posters and it even makes me a bit emotional that you’re willing to make those posts day in day out. Hair loss can be terribly confusing, but your insightful posts about the current understandings make everything much clearer. Sorry if this message comes across a bit awkward but I really just wanted to let you know you’re very much being appreciated
Thanks. I have worked hard for people impacted by genetic balding for years and have published extensively in the peer reviewed medical journals educating doctors and bringing breakthroughs in the field. Posting on Reddit has given me great satisfaction as it does on baldingblog.com. It allows me to give back some of the things I learned and help a lot of people who are ‘lost’ the hair hair loss conundrum where few doctors seem to understand hair loss. I do this because my patients have made me so successful in the field.
It is more than possible as many people have this done. The problem is the growth cycle of body hair which is about 6 months and the telogen cycle is 6 months. That means that if you are transplanting 100 hairs, only 50 will be growing at any one time. Because of the short hair cycle, the length is limited as well as the character which comes with the body hair texture. This, in combination, makes for considerable expense when doing these, you are only getting half of what a scalp or beard donor hair transplant would give you.
We make a point to wash off all of the crusts and scabs the day and the day after the surgery. Now that you are past 12 days, it is safe to put a shampoo on your head, leave it on for 15 minutes and then gently rub the crusts off. Repeat this twice daily until all of the crusting is off. Examples of patients two days out are below and had you been instructed on the washing technique properly, this is what you would have looked like: https://baldingblog.com/class-23-patient-just-5-days-after-fue-procedure-with-photos/
I have been on for almost a year and i noticed recently in the past few months that my erections have gotten weaker. is this going to be permanent? I have stopped taking fin and i’m hoping for the best for my sexual health and my hair
We just polled a group of experts who have written at least 10,000 prescriptions of finasteride to find out what the incidence in the hands of good doctors who have good communication with their patients. I believe I am one of them. Everyone of them has never seen a permanent case or ED. I will comment; however, that in this group of doctors, most commented that they recommended that patients with ED that don’t respond to a decreased dose, were recommended to go off the drug. Maybe that is why the incidence is so low in this group of doctors, but we really don’t know for sure.
