Finasteride and hair transplants
I would assume it is atypical for doctors not to prescribe Finasteride to their patients after performing a transplant. But has anyone heard of this? I am considering an FUE transplant at some point, but after reading some of the studies and research on Post-Finasteride Syndrome (PFS) I am concerned my doctor will “require” it. I’ve always had the thought that since transplanted hairs are permanent, then there shouldn’t really be a NEED to take Finasteride.
Finasteride has two values with hair transplants: (1) it prevents shock loss which is common in men in their 20s and causes loss of miniaturized hairs, and (2) it slows the progression of hair loss which is very, very common in most men under the age of 40 and some men older than that.
