Forehead Feels Cool, Seeing Wrinkles After Using Minoxidil

Sep 18, 2008/by William Rassman, M.D./12 /Drugs

I have used minoxidil for my hair thinning on the vertex and hairline and it is working great! Except I’m noticing a disturbing, growing sensation on my forehead since I have been using it.

Whenever I would apply the minoxidil, my forehead would have a cool, wet sensation for about 20 minutes as if cooled water was running over it but it wasn’t the minoxidil or water. Nevertheless, I have been using it for 2 months and my forehead feels STIFF and I’m noticing wrinkles! I’ve read the 2 archived topics about wrinkles & minoxidil (i.e.”Using Propecia at Temples, Wrinkles From Minoxidil…” ) but I found documented studies about how it effects collagen synthesis (see: Medscape & Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science)

I’m assuming that minoxidil would be the cause of my facial stiffness (so bad, it feels like my forehead is duct taped) and gradual appearance of wrinkles. I’m a 25 year old male. I would greatly appreciate it if you could reply. Thank you so much!

Aside from that previous post from a reader, I’ve never heard complaints about wrinkles being caused by minoxidil. None of my patients have reported that to me. The studies you sent are interesting, but I’m not convinced that minoxidil will cause wrinkles. You might have some kind of allergic skin reaction to an ingredient in your formulation of minoxidil. I’m just speculating, of course.

Stop using this stuff, your wrinkles are a common problem and they probably are permanent

Minoxidil affected my skin for 3 years after stopping treatment. Not convinced its any good long term for hair loss and agree with those who say its bad for the face. Hope the dr will be able to shed some light in future regarding minoxidil interactions with skin. People are being scared for life with these products.

I’m 27 and I also have noticed deep forehead creases from using Rogain – the Women’s version. I have been using it for two months, but a few days after not using the product (one or two), the frightening wrinkles disappear.

I am using Rogain due to trichotillomania, wherein I pull out my hair, I was afraid that patchy hair loss around my bangs would be permanent and it wouldn’t grow back. Right now, my trich is under control so my hair is regrowing but I had pulled so much from my bangs primarily for fifteen years, that I was worried this hair would not regrow.

Maybe it is a minor allegic skin reaction to the product. Since I am using the women’s version, it isn’t caused by testosterone. It seems like it does go away, though, so it is only superficial and transient. I was about to seek out Botox treatment for these forehead wrinkles they were so worrisome. I probably will use this Rogain for another month since I just ordered another one, and then stop using it. I don’t want to look like I’m 40 when I’m in my 20’s! At least now I know I am not alone there.

Your lucky the wrinkles disappear. I still have wrinkles around the eyes and bad skin three years later. This stuff needs to be banned.

No they will never go but fade slightly with time. The only way to remove wrinkles is surgery.

I am 28 years old, so I do not yet need intensive help! However, I am getting lines on my forehead, and just a dull complexion at times. I’ve used the Shielo Complexion Moisturizer for a few months now and I feel that my skin is brighter and smoother. It is not upset my skin at all, it feels moisturized every night when I use it. Highly recommended!

I didn’t notice much of anything from minoxidil. It didn’t help or hurt me. Thanks for posting that link though. I was considering giving it another try sometime; now, I’ll just stay away from it.

I had problems with my skin after using topical Minoxidil. Enlargd pores, and wrinkles. It took a very ling time to return to normal too. It was very effective in treating my hairless on my frontal vortex area however, and I was using a very low does of 5% solution.
