Mane Tail Groom Contains Sulfur
Hi there Dr. Rassman,
I had some serious breakage due to over processing. The stylist I went to used bleach on tons of hair rather than a “10 hair test strand” as she called it. The test strand was done because I told her my hair was previously bleached and processed since then and that I was too scared to do what she recommended. Her so called “10 hair test strand” turned out to be some 50,000 hairs after she was done! My hair is now super thin and I had to cut off a foot and still thin. I even have a bald spot in front where it has receded. So I read that M-T-G (not mane and tail at the drugstore) used on horses can help with the growth process. But I am worried because the 1st ingredient is sulfur. And the 1st ingredient in color removers/strippers is also sulfur. And yet I was told that color removers are harsh on damaged hair and *will* caused very processed hair to break. So now I am worried about using Shapley’s M-T-G. What do you think? Thanks!
Be careful who you listen to. When I do not know something, I say so. I do not know much more about MTG products than I stated here. I don’t like the concept of using sulfur in any form on damaged hair. Be careful, you may be taking to many risks as you experiment with your hair.
Well, I train horses, and mtg gets rid of almost every single skin condition on horses, and it also regrows hair VERY quickly.
I know people that use it on themselves, and since human hair is so much different and less coarse than horse hair, it works approximately 2x faster than on horses. You can expect between 1.5-3 inches of mane or tail growth in a horse in one month, and this is applying it only once a week.
The drawbacks of MTG, are that it smells like a cross between burning wood, bacon grease, and skunk. I’d suggest using it at night, letting it set for 1 hour, and then washing it out. On horses, we don’t wash it out, but I wouldn’t want to go to work smelling like MTG.
You can buy a trial size of the stuff at a Tractor Supply store for like 2.50.
Good luck.
I used MTG on my Rocky Mountain beautiful mane and most of it fell off. He is apparently allergic to the sulfur. You better test the product on a small area before.
I used the MTG and it ate my hair off like acid. I am noe Bald around the edges where I applied it. Can you offer some suggestions on what I can do?
Thanks.
I used MTG for the first time four days ago. I used it on. My scalp and am planning to wash my hair tomorrow. Two days in I felt stubble along the edges of my hairline and was excited at the thought that this stuff really works. Today I was laying on my couch rubbing my scalp and when I turned around I noticed a mass of bulbless hairs scattered on the couch. I’m trying to convince myself that it was caused by the ponytail that I’ve been wearing all week (because MTG is super oily) except at night, but I know that my hair is not normally so weak. Now as I think back I wonder if the stubble is actually the result of broken hair and not new growth. Honestly my hair grows normally; MTG was just my extremely vain attempt at rushing nature. After I wash it out of my hair tomorrow I won’t reapply it, not ever. I’ll just stick with my normal weekly wash and condition regimen, and maybe I’ll incorporate sulfur 8 since it contains safe levels of sulfur instead of an amount that was intended for animals and not humans. For anyone who thinks that I’m trying to promote healthy hair or some other scheme, I’ll take pics tonight of the clump of hair that I gathered and post them on my MySpace page for you to view. My hair is exceptionally healthy; I opted to get a cut that I thought would make me look more gay and instead I just ended up with short lopsided hair that I detest. I thought MTG was the answer, the miracle, but ladies I urge you- stick with products that you know are safe for human use. I use Aveda dry remedy Shampoo and kera care conditioner. I wash and flat iron my hair once per week, I don’t normally use grease, just a light oil sheen for ironing, and I don’t fuss with it between washes. This has worked wonders for me. If you see my MySpace page (www.myspace.com/littleskittle87) you’ll see pics of my haircut- one side is tapered, the other long. I got the cut last
December and continued to maintain the cut through April. Then you’ll see pics of me that I took in August. I’ll even take one tonight for arguments sake though my hair is super greasy. That way you’ll see that you don’t need to do anything drastic to make your hair grow. Just wash it and don’t fuss with it too much. Keep it natural or end up like me, with a handful of hair. Good luck and write me on MySpace if you have any questions.
I’ve used mtg before on my hair, and didn’t have any negative effects. I just slept with it in and my hair was totally fine. I think as long as it’s only inthere for like 12 hrs it’s fine.
Good luck!!
HI i like this website it helped me alot thanx!! =)
man, MTG works wonders on growing hair on bald spots, thickening hair and giving length. and it doesnt eat hair up. the sulfur may make it dry and that means you have to moisturize daily so you dont get breakage. if you are chemically straigtening using relaxers then thats where the breakage is coming from.
