I get watery semen every time I take 320mg SP extract. I reproduced this issue a dozen times. Doesn’t that suggest it blocks DHT significantly?
I have never recommended Saw Palmetto, so I have no personal experience with it other than what I read. It does sound like a DHT blocking effect.
Yes, we have been doing beard transplant for many years. We use both scalp hair or sometimes, hair from under the chin or in the upper neck if the scalp hair is a distinctly different in hair caliber than your normal beard hair. Doctors must be attentive to specific nuances when doing a beard transplant to avoid skin problems that make the transplant detectable. Here are a few examples of beards we have transplanted: https://newhair.com/before-and-after/beard/#results

The majority of smokers (425) had a form of AGA, while only (200) nonsmokers had a degree of AGA (P < .01). Of the smokers group, 235 (47%) had grade III AGA and 120 subjects (24%) had grade IV AGA. In the nonsmokers group, 100 subjects (20%) had grade II AGA and 50 subjects (10%) had either grade III or IV AGA.
Conclusion
The prevalence of AGA among smokers was statistically higher than among nonsmokers, while severity of AGA was not associated with the intensity of smoking. Nicotine and its derivative cotinine might be responsible for accelerating AGA progress pending further validation.
Dr. Rassman’s Comments: This is a fascinating study strongly suggesting that smoking (possibly nicotine) accelerates male pattern balding, in those who I suspect in those who have a genetic predisposition for it.
If I say on the minoxidil, will my body hair keep growing longer, like 10 cm? That is scary…
Body hair rarely grows that long because it undergoes telogen at about 6-8 months and falls out, only to regrow after. Telogen is the sleep phase and in all hair follicles go through it. These body hairs may stay in the sleep phase for up to 6 months before a new hair appears crating a new beginning of its new anagen hair cycling.
I’m 27 with a mildly receding hairline. When do I start with preservation or treatment of what I have.
See a good doctor who can build a Personalized Master Plan and perform a HAIRCHECK test (https://baldingblog.com/haircheck-test-how-it-is-done-video/) to find out when and if you need to start treating your hair loss. A good doctor will work with the plan you derive and by following the plan you can keep your hair throughout your lifetime and never go bald. The key is to make a definitive diagnosis before you start any treatments and it’s all about peace of mind.
Will the hypertrichosis caused by minoxidil stop at one time if I stop minoxidil, Or will the unwanted hair all over the body keep growing longer and darker if I keep taking minoxidil? Here in France, no doctor have knowledge about this issue….
If you are getting hypertrichosis with minoxidil, then as long as you take the drug, it will continue. When you stop it, the hypertrichosis should go away in a matter of months
Is it normal to shed initially on 5AR inhibitors or should I stop immediately once I’ve noticed initial shedding? Is it a tell-tale sign I shouldn’t be taking it? (I’m going to be trialing saw palmetto as of next week I ask because the drug pamphlet of finasteride doesn’t mention initial shedding as an expected occurence at all, nor could I find any studies saying it’s normal to shed on finasteride
Shedding has not been a common report with my patients but I would suggest that you continue it as the shedding should stop in time.
I have been on it for a year and the situation has gotten worse, now NW3 diffuse forelock. I had a bunch of vellus hairs in the beginning of the year but they have all but disappeared and I just feel that finasteride isn’t being properly metabolised or something, since I never had any sides either.
With a healthy liver, the drug WILL metabolize.
Then why not shave it until you get the progress you are after with medication? It’s not going to limit my progress and I will look way better in the mean time. My hair looks pretty bad right now…. its not attractive, That’s the truth. If you don’t care, then great….but if I didn’t care why would I be so invested in regrowing it. Shaving it might take some of the fear away from being bald too. Should I consider a hair transplant? I’m 22 years old.
Some men are satisfied with balding and shave their heads for a Bolder look. Today this is more than acceptable, it is common. Alternatively, you can get Scalp Micropigmentation instead of a hair transplant which gives them the look of a full shaved head of hair, but it is not hair, it just looks that way and the look is good and as you get older, you can then do a hair transplant if that is something you are thinking about (see my website main page: https://scalpmicropigmentation.com/.
Yes! I have had patients with sexual side effects and then I reduced the dose to 1/2 or 1/4 the regular dose and the side effects went away
I saw 2 different cardiologists this week to ask them about taking low dose oral minoxidil. Kevin Mann scared the shit out of me with his videos on it. My dermatologist prescribed me 1.25mg per day.
The 2 cardiologists that I saw:
I asked each doctor if I needed to worry about the following oral minoxidil side effects at low doses:
-
Thrombocytopenia (reduction in platelet count)
-
Leukocytopenia (low white blood cell count)
-
EKG alterations in T wave
-
Pericardial effusion (layer of water around the heart)
-
Pericarditis
-
LVH (Left Ventricular Hypertrophy)
I went through the above 6 side effects with both docs and both said there is no need to worry about any of these sides at such a low dose. I then asked the doctors what they consider to be a high dose of oral minoxidil. They said high dose = 5mg twice a day. I asked if 5mg once a day was high, they said they would also consider it to be high. So stay with 2.5mg per day or 1.25mg per day.
I hope this post will help people like me who were terrified of trying oral minoxidil. I already had several people on reddit telling me they were taking low doses with no issues but I really needed to hear it from a doctor to be sure.
One of the above docs also suggested taking oral minoxidil before bed. This way in case your bp drops low and you experience light headedness or feeling of fainting, it won’t be an issue because you’ll already be lying down. It’s more problematic if you take it in the morning.
I will be starting 1.25mg daily and will report back after a few months.
This is a fascinating read. It seems that Rice Bran Products applied cosmetically to the hair have many good benefits listed in the article here: Rice+Products+in+Hair+Growth
