Hair loss due to anabolic steroid use works the same way as male pattern (androgenic) hair loss. It is generally not reversible. Drugs such as Propecia may help, but once a process starts it is difficult to stop or reverse completely. My best advice is to stop the steroids (if prescribed, see your doctor), go […]

Steroids cause hair loss. I personally do not recommend daily or twice daily use of steroids for seborrheic dermatitis. Occasional use one or two treatments a week may not impact hair loss but it should be used sparingly.
Steroids are bad news, not only for your hair, but for your body as well. It accelerates genetic balding where ever you are going to lose the hair. Most people lose hair in the front, so steroid acceleration may impact your frontal hair faster. I will not recommend one steroid over another.
There might be some value to taking Propecia, but it won’t stop the hair loss and probably will see acceleration with the steroids anyway.
Anabolic steroids (like Deca-Durabolin) are not something I recommend medically for weight lifting, but I have heard of other doctors who prescribe it for that purpose (see DomesticGear.com – Deca Durabolin). You should definitely be under the care of a qualified medical physician if you are taking anabolic steroids. Aside from the hair loss aspect […]
Yes, steroids can be a cause of hair loss in some people. Hair is a skin organ, but hair is only part of the skin elements. When the surface of the skin turns over faster than normal (we shed skin slowly and uniformly on a daily basis and replace from below, what is lost on […]
Steroids, especially anabolic steroids (the kind bodybuilders use), may cause hair loss. Unfortunately for reasons not clearly understood, once you start losing hair it seems to continue as if a “switch” has been turned on. Finally, the hair loss you are noticing may just be your natural course of hair loss indendent of Rogaine or […]
Your theories are interesting, yet there are plenty of vegetarians who are bald. While it is true that some animals may be subjected to anabolic steroids, I doubt any significant levels (if any at all) would be found in the consumables. Even if it is, heat would denature (or make ineffective) any steroid in the […]
From a brief history it is not clear if corticosteroids were the cause of your hair loss, as it seems you have other medical problems (“lethargy, anxiety, depression, weight gain”). Please note that most hair loss from drugs are reversible if you are not genetically programmed for hair loss. Injections of corticosteroid into the scalp […]
Steroids are not always safe to use, and that is why it is regulated by prescription administration. I think that your question is: Will body workouts where muscle mass is built cause hair loss without taking exogenous steroids? If that is the question, I would think not. But if you had Alopecia Areata, then there […]
You probably precipitated what we call a telogen effluvium, which can be caused by steroid use. Once this begins there is nothing that will reverse it until it goes its course. I always tell my patients that although Propecia may protect you somewhat, it is not a sure thing when you take steroids. I would […]
All of the steroids are related in action, somewhat different in particular strengths and weaknesses, so they do vary. There is clearly overlap and there is no doubt that the steroids used for colitis will impact genetic hair loss. That is my point. Yes, there are more than one gene that contribute to hair loss. […]
If your cousin has genetic male patterned baldness, but has not started to bald yet, the steroids will most likely accelerate the balding process. If he is not genetically ‘impacted’ (does not have the gene for balding) the steroids should have no balding effect.

Nice post on your blog. I’ve always wondered why some people’s HT don’t always take. Questions this brings up: – should one go to a dermatology clinic instead of a doc to get this done? – perhaps in the same way one can take fin to mitigate shockloss, would it be wise to take corticosteroid pills […]
