If you are considering Scalp MicroPigmentation (SMP) then you should be prepared to keep your hair cut short (buzzcut with no guard). If the bald area is covered anyway, I’m not sure why you’d want to have it done. If it’s not covered, the hair should be kept clipped short to keep the pigmented area […]

Follicular unit extraction (FUE) and Scalp MicroPigmentation (SMP) can work very well together, but you can’t have the two procedures done on the same day. I generally recommend having the SMP and FUE procedures done 6 months apart.
Some men can just fly in and leave the same day for Scalp MicroPigmentation. It depends on how much time you want to spend on a plane in one day — and how long your SMP procedure takes. If you need a second process, you can come back anytime at your leisure with the same […]
Brocq Pseudopelade is a scarring alopecia and is difficult to treat. If the disease has taken its course and not changed much in the past few years, the objectives for a local small surgery are clearly defined, and if the area being addressed is located in a place that tends to heal well, then surgery […]
We can control the darkness of the color, but a darker Scalp MicroPigmentation (SMP) will not give you the look of longer hair. If you shave your head (perhaps with a short clip guard on), the ‘donor fringe’ cropped look is what we try to achieve.
Scars from brain surgeries, as you describe, can be addressed with a hair transplant surgery or with Scalp MicroPigmentation (SMP). Treating brain surgery scars take some experience, as hair that is transplanted into the scar tissue may not fully grow. Be sure that the doctor you see has experience with transplanting into scars. I would […]
The color for Scalp MicroPigmentation (SMP) can be made gray, which would probably solve your issue if you decided to stop coloring your hair before you had it done. Most SMP procedures can turn some shade of gray over time, and that can be easily targeted. As for Joey Lawrence (at right), he does have […]
If you find that you have a scar from your donor harvest that you find is unacceptable, these options need to be discussed with a competent doctor. The scar often has ridging from the nature of the closure and that will be determined by the doctor who evaluates you. Scars from the donor area are […]
Each person is a separate case. I can not tell you that Scalp MicroPigmentation (SMP) plus hair transplants is better than either alone. I make each judgment when I understand the patient, when I see how fast the hair loss process is, and when I can then build a Master Plan. Generally, the hair transplant […]
Generally, scarring alopecia with balding from it does well with Scalp MicroPigmentation (SMP). We have done a few severe cases which I could show you if you visited my office. One particular patient who had very extensive scarring and balding would rather not have his photos online.
In general terms, Scalp MicroPigmentation (SMP) is a great method to disguise scarring from previous surgeries on the scalp, but you would need to keep your hair shaved. Another option would be a hair transplant to disguise the scars. A consultation would be best at this point so we can see what you’re dealing with […]
You may be correct, but shaved heads are more common in the African-American community so we are more accustomed to that look. Light skin and dark hair accentuate any balding pattern, but Scalp MicroPigmentation (SMP) does work well. The key is choosing the right shade of SMP, since every patient is different.
We do not have any experience with blonde hair so I would not recommend Scalp MicroPigmentation at this time for this combination of skin and hair color.
Scalp MicroPigmentation (SMP) should not be used to convert a Norwood class 4 to a Norwood class 2… unless you made the decision to shave your head for life. Hair transplants would accomplish what you are suggesting, not SMP.
We haven’t experienced “shock loss” per se in patients that had Scalp MicroPigmentation (SMP). One or two patients did report some hair loss initially, but it was not significant to be noticed. The risk is probably in the use of the anesthesia, rather than the SMP. Dr. Pak’s mother had SMP done and did report […]
