This patient had 4,500 FUE grafts and you can see in the photo the difference between the donor area, which is a bit too high, and the normal hair density on the neck side of the photo. The surgery depleted the donor hair significantly. This is caused by either (1) very fine hair or (2) […]

Further FUE grafts harvested from the area shown where the previous grafts were removed will eventually make that area bald. The sides are reasonable additional donor source for FUE if this area was not harvested before. Strip surgery may also be possible for additional grafts. A careful discussion with an expert surgeons is critical to […]
Unfortunately, this is not an uncommon complaint; however, your donor density must have been very low to get such a depletion with 1500 FUE grafts. The only solution for this is Scalp Micropigmentation. I wrote a paper on this which can be seen in this post: https://baldingblog.com/2017/07/21/many-fue-grafts-many-fues-grafts-one-know-safe-limits/. Take a look at this site for more […]
It is now three months since my hair transplant was done. Should I have expected growth by now? I tell my patients that you can expect the growth to start usually between months 3-5 and then grow to styling length in 8 months with 80% of the growth out by then
Having bumps where you had an FUE in the donor area may be the result of burred grafts which form foreign body reactions. You need to go back and see your doctor. These look like they already healed with possibly small cysts below the skin. Without examining you, I can’t be sure.
More and more patients are experiencing over zealous surgeons who take out too many grafts from their donor area in doing FUE. I know that many patients want a lot a grafts so that they can get their hair back as quickly as possible, but pushing the envelope is a real problem as many men, […]
I don’t understand your argument William. its better to have hair in your twenties, so what if the graft run out. then you at least have a hairline established which makes a lot of difference. what’s the alternative? just go bald and don’t do anything., not a good alternative The issue is complex. Men at […]
This patient had an FUE and lost all of the donor area hair on one side of his head most likely from shock loss. This is often caused by the over-use of epinephrine in the anesthetics. After 5 months, much of this hair came back. Interesting case. I suspect that the FUE grafts numbers may […]
An FUE hair transplant depletes the donor area. The greater the number of grafts, the greater the depletion and the see-through look you will develop. Each patient should research this subject before having an FUE with a large number of grafts. 5000 grafts for most people might be a bit too-much but that depends upon […]
My question is how soon can I wear my turban again? After an FUE, the wounds are usually closed in under 5 days or so and all of the crusts are gone from the recipient area. As a Sikh patient, using a clean Turban at one week is reasonable as long as there are no […]
FUE produces “punctate scars” which show up clearly on your head. The more FUEs that you do, the more FUE scars will be seen. If you do too many, then these scars will dominate your head. Every time the human body is cut, it heals with a scar. There is no such thing as a […]
Yes, it does look like you have pushed your donor area and now have ‘donor site depletion’. I would have to examine you and measure your residual donor density. I see many such patients both in my office and over the internet. Scalpmicropigmentaiton is the best way to treat this and make it look good […]
You have something called ‘donor site depletion’ or you could have shock loss which means that the FUE grafts were taken too close and possibly too many for your donor area to support it. Maybe some of the hairs have been shocked out and may return, but if this continues through the 8th month, then […]
The picture says it all. Yes, it was a bargain but at what cost? This patient had over 3000 FUE grafts permanently removed from his donor area (possibly had only 6000-7000 total for all hair transplants in his lifetime), plus he is now scarred and he will have to go after another transplant just to […]
Your donor supply looks pushed. If you harvest more grafts in this areas where it was harvested before, you may deplete the donor area and become bald there. There is a limit to how many hairs can be supplied by the donor area. The safe area for harvesting I defined by the lines I drew […]
