It will identify the genes that it is looking for, nothing more. Genetic tests are accurate assuming that they are done properly and the genes have been isolated for the test. I’d expect it to be accurate, yes, though I haven’t run any independent tests.

If one were to preselect women with the genes for hair loss and then treated them with a drug that would impact hair loss in women with the gene, the study would require a large population with good statistics to see the value. The important variable here is the drug that is selected and how […]
From the press release — Full article — Revolutionary Genetic Test For Women’s Hair Loss Launched Like the HairDX test for men that was announced earlier this year, this is an exciting finding, but it may be difficult to understand how to use it since there is not a one-to-one ratio between the presence of […]
I am having a problem with the use of this test, but I am not against it if someone wants it. Based upon the test alone, I would not start treatment for hair loss, but when hair loss starts, I would commence treatment in men ASAP. So the test will not drive me to do […]
My knowledge of HairDX is limited to what I can find on the Internet (not much outside of their official website and official press releases). Assuming HairDX works and does give you an accurate genetic testing profile, why would you want to spend $149 when you can get a free consultation with a doctor? I […]
I am not sure where you would read I rarely perform hair line lowering. It is rather a common request. Each and every patient and case is different and hair line lowering is a normal request for both men and women. After all, hair restoration surgery is an elective cosmetic surgery. If one wants to […]
Thank you for sharing your story. I guess the way to find out for sure if Propecia was responsible, you’d have to stop taking the medication and see if your hair falls out. Not exactly ideal, and not something I’d recommend. There’s also the HairDX Finasteride Response test, but it won’t tell you if Propecia […]
The photos you saw on Dr. Bernstein’s site are amazing, and I have seen results like this for myself on occasion at my office. But regrowth at the front is rare (probably under 5%) compared to the results that are more common in the top/crown. The photos show what is possible, but you have to […]
It is known that Propecia hurts the hairline? Some people have asked (through this blog) about shedding upon starting the drug, but this isn’t a typical occurrence and doesn’t seem to be limited to just the hairline. You are asking me to give you advice on whether or not to take a prescription drug — […]
It’s possible that Propecia kept your hair loss from being worse than it is, but it’s also possible that you are a non-responder to the medication. I really have no way to know, as I don’t have any hair bulk analysis to compare before starting the medication and today. You can look into having a […]
Yes. Finasteride is often tried in post-menopausal women, but the results are a mixed bag and the drug will not reliably return more hair to the thinning areas. There is an androgen sensitivity test for women by HairDX that could help determine if you’ll see possible benefits from the medication. Read more about that here. […]
I can not possibly form an opinion one way or the other based on what you wrote. I would need to examine you and make a determination based upon my observations and measurements. Female hair loss is not as clear cut as male hair loss, so differing opinions are not unusual. Finasteride is not FDA […]
Read through the HairDX Test for Finasteride Response site and you will see some reflections on why some men do not respond to finasteride. Minoxidil is still another story. You need to establish a good doctor-patient relationship and get the opinions of a good doctor who might help you. Sometimes, it just is what it […]
See a doctor who will measure your hair bulk and map this out on your scalp. This will give you a metric on hair loss and if you compare this measurement over time, you will know if you are losing the battle or not. If you are indeed losing hair continuously (and at the same […]
You have a complex story and it would likely require a complex examination. Without seeing you and examining you, I can not tell you the cause of your hair loss or what you can do about it. The HairDX test can tell you if you’ve got the genetic markers, but it won’t tell you if […]
