The press release you sent is the first I’ve heard of it (thanks for bringing it to my attention), but I’d assume this newly announced test identifies the same genes as HairDX. It doesn’t appear that the HairDX test is available in India, so Metropolis appears to have the market cornered there.

If you’ve got a strong family history of hair loss, you’ve got a stronger chance of losing hair. I can’t say for sure what you’re experiencing right now, but emotional stress can cause an increase in shedding and the hair could regrow… but it could also be the start of your permanent genetic hair loss. […]
Snippet from the article: Read the full article: Study indicates Finasteride therapy may benefit women suffering from hair loss This is a very positive early study from HairDX and the first I’ve seen which targets the post-menopausal women who have a high sensitivity to the effects of Propecia (finasteride). With that type of information, I […]
I have answered this question many times. I believe Propecia (1mg finasteride) always works on balding men, but by “working” I mean reversing, slowing, or stopping hair loss… not necessarily regrowth. In other words, you may not see the true value of the action of the drug unless you take it for a few years […]
The genes responsible can skip generations and can be passed down from either side of the family. There’s really no easy way to pinpoint your chances of losing hair, but there is a genetic test that will tell you if you carry the gene. There’s no easy way to give an estimate of when you’ll […]
Not all clinics use magnification during a consultation, and it doesn’t make much sense to me that they try to rush you out the door if you’re not a candidate for surgery. It’s a good idea to call ahead and make sure that you will be able to have your scalp mapped during your initial […]
There are many, many genes for balding and only some have been recognized. A few on the X chromosome have been highlighted by the company HairDX, but genes are constantly being found on chromosomes beyond the X chromosome. Genetic hair loss is very complex (not like the eye color of the fruit fly) and it […]
That may be why you should consider the HairDX Finasteride Response test, because if it shows that you are not sensitive to Propecia, maybe conditions might be reasonable to consider Avodart (something I rarely prescribe). As you are not one of my patients and I have not examined you, I would not be in a […]
Proscar is the same drug as Propecia, just in higher dosage (Proscar is 5mg finasteride, Propecia is 1mg). If you cut the medication, it is the same. You do need a different prescription for that, and some doctors may have a problem giving you a prostate medication prescription at 24 years old. Explain to them […]
Even if you were an XY, you have about a 50% chance of inheriting your father’s family line. I do know now about XYY like you are, but I would generally tell you to do what I always tell people to do when determining their likelihood of developing genetic balding: Get a genetic test from […]
I just got back from the 17th annual scientific ISHRS meeting (basically a hair transplant doctor’s convention), which went on from July 22-26. Lots of information was presented… lots of lectures, presentations, and discussions. This year’s meeting was in Amsterdam, so I had quite a long flight back to California when it was all over […]
There is a genetic test called HairDX Test for Finasteride Response that can check your overall sensitivity to DHT blockers like finasteride, as we are all different genetically. It scores a CAG repeat test, and when the patient scores low (less than 22, for example) they will have a better response from finasteride than when […]
Scalp biopsies are not accurate for the diagnosis of hair loss. The best way to diagnose hair loss in men, is with miniaturization mapping and pattern determination for the hair loss. You can also have the gene detected (see HairDX), but that will only tell you have you are carrying the gene… not if you […]
It seems that your genetic predisposition may be winning the battle over Propecia. You should see your doctor who prescribed you the medication and discuss your options. You may consider adding Rogaine or even increasing the Propecia dose* (but again, discuss it with your doctor first). You may even consider having the HairDX Test for […]
I don’t think that there is any difference in young women now or in any time in the past, but I believe you are more attuned to observing what might have passed you by before your daughter reported a problem. If you are concerned about androgenic alopecia (AGA), you can obtain a genetic test to […]
