There is no major harm in increasing the dose of finasteride, except we see a higher incidence of decreased libido with higher doses. The higher dose does not, to my knowledge, have more value than the 1mg dose of finasteride for the treatment of hair loss. If you are cutting Proscar 5mgs into 0.5mg, then […]

Avodart is not currently approved by the FDA for the treatment of male pattern baldness (MPB). Propecia is the only oral medication approved by the FDA for MPB. Comparisons of Avodart with Propecia are conjecture by those who make such statements. It may be fair to say (without putting a percentage to it) that Avodart […]
You could have thinning secondary to Accutane build-up. Stopping Accutane may help. Avodart, as I have said over and over again, is not FDA approved for hair loss. Although it is used by some doctors, I have only prescribed it once and am not about to start going ‘off label’ for many reasons that I […]
Going on Propecia and then going off of Propecia is a bad idea. I have seen many men stop it for 4-6 months and they start losing hair at about a month, which quickly becomes evident at 3 months. If they restart it again, they rarely go back to where they were before they stopped […]
I generally tell my patients that it is best to take finasteride in the morning when normal testosterone levels are highest. It makes the most sense to me. I would also doubt that exercising and the drug have any cyclical impact on testosterone. We can logically believe that if hair is a good insulator, it […]
Finasteride at the 1mg dose will not guarantee that you will stop your hair loss. Some people stop it and some people reverse it. Some people just see it slow down. I think that it works in all men, just maybe not as effective in some as in others. Over time the hair loss tends […]
Some things that you are referencing cause hair loss. Propecia may protect against the effects of building DHT levels caused by the anabolic-like steroid metabolites you are also planning to take. There is some balance here, but no assurance that what you want to happen will actually happen (i.e. cancelling out the bad effects with […]
I looked at the reference you cited. The piece proposes that nutrasweet may interfere with the action of Propecia, but it is conjunctural, not factual. Formaldahyde, if it were a significant metabolite of nutrisweet, would/could cause liver disease, which is not a reported side effect.
I looked it up and could not find anything on it. Essentially, I don’t have a clue. Can you send me a point of reference?
If it quacks like it duck, it probably is a duck. If your hair loss is in the pattern of Male Pattern Baldness (MPB) and there are characteristics typical of MPB miniaturization, then your hair loss is probably be due to MPB. Hair loss from Accutane may persist after stopping the drug and may precipitate […]
The standard dose for Propecia (finasteride 1mg) is one pill once a day. This dosage has been shown to give the best benefit for male pattern hair loss. Propecia has a relatively short half life (the time it takes half of the drug to leave the blood stream). Thus, by the end of the first […]
I do not have the answer to your question, because effectiveness studies have not been done on an official scale. Also, the drug’s half life is about 5 weeks for blood levels (Propecia is 5 hours) so the drug hangs around for a long time. Those doctors who use it admit confusion over dosing, so […]
If you are taking finasteride at the 1mg dose (Propecia), I would not worry about cross-reactivity. The official site does not mention a problem with the medications you listed. Minoxidil on the other hand, is an anti-hypertensive agent so if you mix it with the anti-hypertensive medication you take, you could drop your blood pressure […]
From my experience, I have found that Propecia (finasteride) is more effective than Rogaine for men with genetic hair loss, particularly in the crown if it is early and/or they are younger (under 30). Technically, you may not need to use Rogaine at all while being on finasteride. I have noticed that most patients do […]
Miniaturization occurs in men and women who are balding. Miniaturization is the process where a normal thickness hair shaft becomes thinner and thinner over time due to the genetically determined effects of aging and/or androgenic hormones on the terminal (normal) hair follicle. The process of miniaturization is a slow process in genetic balding. Hair shafts […]
