I generally don’t like to classify patients in Norwood class 1 or 2, because it isn’t really considered hair loss. This is not a surgical issue, at least in our hands. I suppose a mature hairline can look like a Norwood 1 or 2. If you feel the absolute need to classify yourself in a […]

If you are worried about losing hair, then you should see a doctor for an objective examination. Some people may just have some front hairline recession and that is it. It’s possible your hairline can mature and then you won’t see any further loss, but I couldn’t say what your loss pattern might be just […]
You should read through this post, which should answer your question — Maturation of a Hairline. Yes, I suppose that some men in the balding process may go through a stage looking like a mature hairline and then continue receding.
I don’t prescribe Propecia as a preventive measure, and a mature hairline doesn’t necessarily indicate that you’re going to lose hair beyond that. Even family balding history doesn’t mean you’re destined to lose hair, as it can skip generations. Propecia works best with early genetic loss present, so upon examination I’d be able to make […]
Everybody goes through some form of maturation of their hairline. It is not limited to race or ethnicity. It looks like any maturing hairline. In general, the hairline may recede about one fingerbreadth back, but the Asian hairline is flatter than the Caucasian hairline. The patient photos shown here are of an Asian man in […]
I do not believe so. I would say that the mature hairline develops as the hairs from the original juvenile hairline reach the end of their growth cycle (developing apoptosis). It’s like asking theoretically if you can turn back time.
Thanks for allowing us to post your photos. Click them to enlarge. Hair loss genes may be passed on from mother, father, or both. I realize many people believe it follows more from the mother’s side, but that is not an absolute fact. I’d say if anything, it favors the maternal side only 52% […]
I do not believe that there is a maturing hairline for women, but some form of reshaping of the hairline may be seen. In women who have had considerable plastic surgery, the corners of the frontal hairline often thin so significantly that I perform fill-in procedures for that area. Another possibility is as you suggested […]
I know you’re all shocked to learn that I didn’t pay too much attention to teen sitcoms in the 1990s and thus am not familiar with Mark-Paul Gosselaar… but I absolutely agree that this is a great example of a young man’s hairline maturing. Note in his teenage photo on the left that his […]
In all my years, I really never relied on a biopsy to differentiate between male pattern baldness (MPB) and a maturing hairline. Actually, I do not know how one would see that on a biopsy and I would want to know exactly where the biopsy was placed. Plus, it would leave a scar if you […]
You can try Rogaine at the hairline, but it may be a losing battle. I have seen many patients over the years on Propecia (finasteride) as well as Rogaine (minoxidil 2% or 5%), but they still go on to recede in the front as the hairline matures. In some rare cases I have seen it […]
Only time will tell. It is possible that when and if the juvenile hairline is lost, that you will balance out what you see.
Vellus hairs are short, fine, light colored, often barely noticed hairs, which develop on most of the human body… and on the scalp they are part of the follicular unit. Some people might call it peach fuzz, and these hairs are not only on your frontal or maturing hairline, but they’re also found almost everywhere […]
While I thank you for permission to post these, I usually require a frontal view with the eyebrows lifted high so that the creases on the forehead show. You supplied two side views with the eyebrows lifted and a poor quality photo that requires me to guess. I’ll take a stab at it anyway. Click […]
This was a consultation patient of Asian descent that allowed me to use his photos for the purpose of educating on the blog. He only came in once and never had a hair transplant (at least, not with us). Miniaturization mapping may help to determine a future loss pattern.
