I’m still getting inquiries about the LaserComb, and there’s really not much else left to say about it at this point, but I did find some new links worth sharing: Overview on technology blog Gizmodo — Hands On with the HairMax Laser Comb Parody from The Onion — FDA Approves Laser Comb Reasonable assessment on […]
To answer to your question, I need to explain a bit about medical research, which could be found behind almost any new treatment modality in medicine. Any new drug needs to go through different phases of testing before becoming approved for use in humans. The LaserComb did not go through such testing, but rather got […]
As I understand it, the LaserComb was not approved for effectiveness, but was approved based on a predicate device which they showed was similar. The Merck studies are extensive drug studies, which show statistical value in hair growth and hair retention. You can review the Merck data, which is all over the internet. You are […]
After the recent FDA approval of the HairMax LaserComb, there have been many brief articles written based upon the press release that the product’s manufacturer had sent out. Most articles I’ve seen have been essentially disbelief that a product like this could’ve been approved, while other articles were simply rehashing what the press release stated. […]
Comments like this emphasize the old adage, ‘Let the Buyer Beware’.
Please see my previous posts on the subject —Why Are You Suspicious of the FDA and the LaserComb Now? and HairMax LaserComb Receives FDA Approval?. Even though the stationary laser has some scientific documentation in the European literature, thie stationary lasers are far more intensive a treatment than a few strokes of a comb, which […]
To be honest, I am having difficulty believing that the comb works. A few passes with a comb through your hair each day brings hair back? My brain tells me not to believe it. The lasers that kill hair are different so look at them as a totally different product with a commonality in name.
I too was surprised to see the level of endorsement for the use of the term ‘hair growth’. I have read a massive number of articles on Low Laser Light Therapy and it is clear that the articles seem to show some benefit in the 10-20% range. Each article, however, was sponsored by people or […]
I received two emails recently about the HairMax LaserComb, so I’ll combine my response into one… EMAIL 1: EMAIL 2: This came out of the FDA and this is the exact wording in the final page of the FDA letter in January 2007: Indications for Use 510(k) Number (if known): K060 305 Device Name: HairMax […]
Best go to the consumer protection agency in your government, which often protects people from false advertising, as that is their job. In California, this agency is active, but they generally do not like to take on the quest of individuals unless you can prove false advertising/promotion. I do not know where you could find […]
I took the time to review their data and contrary to their protestations that there was not enough resolution in the photographs, I would challenge that statement. If they felt the photos didn’t well represent their claims, why would they bother posting them? In fact, the resolution in the photos were excellent (we looked at […]
You are correct in your statements. Unfortunately, there are no new updates. Laser light therapy for hair is semi-controversial and there are clinical studies that are attempting to prove its effectiveness. However, to date, I have not seen a good scientific and unbiased test result to prove if it works. At NHI, we have two […]
It is difficult without pictures or seeing you in person to render an opinion that has real value to you. You can excise the frontal scarred hairline (done frequently) and then have those grafts transplanted with a normal soft transition zone of 1, 2, and 3 hair units. As you are on the east coast, […]
Regrowth of hair in the presence of active alopecia areata is likely not possible. I would need to evaluate him to understand the complex process and findings you are telling us about. Am I correct to assume that the lasers produced skin damage? Was it skin discoloration or is it real scarring? Is your son […]
